5.0 out of 5 stars Love the Spellmans, November 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Spellman Files (Hardcover)
The Spellman books are fnatastic. I love the wacky characters and the family dynamics in this book series. While reading the book I was torn between wishing I had a faimily this colorful and being thankful that I did not have a family like the Spellmans. The use of footnotes is very clever. You really have to pay attention as you read because the footnotes add a great deal to the story telling. You do need to read the books from this seris in order. All of the Spellman books are great. They are laugh out loud funny. Can't wait for Lisa Lutz to write another installment.

5.0 out of 5 stars The type of book great films are made of, August 12, 2010
This review is from: The Spellman Files (Paperback)
It is clear when you read this book that Lisa Lutz cut her literary teeth writing screenplays. Everything from the layout to the character construction screams movies. And this is not a bad thing. In fact, it's great! As an avid reader of anything and everything that comes printed on paper, Lisa Lutz's approach was a delightful suprise.

The characters are wonderfully quirky - just strange enough to be endearing without crossing the line into completely unbelievable. The chemistry between Isabel and David is fantastic, as is the chemistry between the two Rae/y's (for an explanantion of this one, you'll have to read the book!). The only disappointment was Petra. I felt like she was an afterthought, a convenient foil whose character development was practically non-existent.

On the strength of this one book alone, Lisa Lutz has made it onto my "Most Adored Authors" list. I couldn't recommend it more highly. After all, when you find a book where even the acknowledgments make you laugh, you can't help but fall in love.
