5.0 out of 5 stars A Rare Flower in Claudine's Song-Garden, January 13, 2003

This review is from: Let's Spend the Night Together (Audio CD)
This may be the rarest yet least purchased of Claudine Longet's albums. Upon first listen, one with an elitist vision of what constitues rock and/or pop music may be tempted to dismiss what is really going on here. Each song is a specifically chosen gem, that lends itself to Claudine's sensual singing style. Do not expect an exact cover of the original songs that we all know. These are totally unique versions that come from the heart of the artist, and may haunt the listener. It reminds one of Julie London who claimed to have such a "weak" voice she had to put her lips closer to the mike to help the sound engineer. As you listen to this album think of Claudine in the same way, leaning closer, with her lips almost touching the mike so that the listener can hear every sound, even her breath between each word. The songs are given new life, in a fresh style all Claudine's own, and the French-American pronounciation of the words are enchanting. It must be listened to a few times before the true impact hits the listener. Blot out all preconceptions, and listen with a love of music. This album is a treasure worth all of the import cost, a cost that will increase with time. Buy it now before it goes out of print, or doubles in price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Claudine's shining hour, December 9, 2002

So much controversy has surrounded Claudine since she became Andy Williams' wife in the mid-1960's that it's almost impossible to remember when she was just another struggling songbird--at this point a divorced mom working and still shining, indeed at the peak of her bewitching charms. Beatles fans have snickered at her cover of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy", but I think it is beautifully done(my only complaint is that she changes the lyrics to "Jealous KIND"). The careful, dreamy orchestration of this album and the spare production adds to the eerie beauty of it all. One of my favorites of all time.
