Editorial Reviews

Review

"An insightful book that introduces a new concept that will change the way you look at money decisions." -- Tom Garman, author Personal Finance

"Grady demystifies personal finance; everything is a series of simple steps! Very empowering!" -- Judy Lawrence, author The Budget Kit and The Money Tracker

Certified Financial Planner and author Grady Cash believes that identifying our "spending personality" is the key to gaining some measure of control over our personal finances and reaching our ultimate financial goals. To this end, he defines the "Seven Spending Personalities." "Nosce teipsum," the Greeks advised long ago, and Grady encourages us to "find ourselves" in one of the seven spending personalities he identifies: Impulsive Spenders, Fanatical Spenders, Passive Spenders, Avoidance Spenders, Esteem Spenders, Overdone Spenders, and Hot Potato Spenders. Personally, I'm not sure that everybody I know fits into these seven categories. For example, I'm still not sure where my cheapskate husband (bless his heart) would fit into Grady's grand scheme. In one chapter "The Empowered Spender Checklist," Grady gives advice on shopping, which includes the admonition to "Find the Lowest Price." Does today's aggressive price-conscious consumer really need to be told to find the lowest price? This would be most helpful to young or unsophisticated consumers, or this very tiny book might be helpful to spendaholics or those with a proven "spending problem." Chapters on "Children and Spending" and "Saving for Children: The Cost of College" seem somewhat out of place in a book for very young consumers, but might be helpful advice to young marrieds. All in all, I didn't find out how to "spend myself rich" by reading this book. -- From Independent Publisher

From the Author

The author is a professional speaker who conducts keynotes and workshops on financial well-being. Years ago, he left financial planning to help people build healthier attitudes towards money. Today, he is recognized as "the father of financial well-being." He pioneered the entire industry of financial wellness education. Grady Cash, CFP sits on the Board of Advisors of the National Center for Financial Education. He is the Financial Wellness Spokesperson for the National Wellness Institute. Here are his own words.

"Years ago, I discovered that all mistakes with money fell into only seven subconscious patterns. Since then, thousands of people have learned their "spending personality" and how to conquer their most common subconscious money mistakes. They needed a way to identify and achieve their most important goals in life. Most people get so caught up in their hectic day-to-day routine that they lose sight of why they are working so hard in the first place. Spend Yourself Rich starts out by asking readers to identify their most important goals in life. Then, it shows readers how to spend in harmony with those goals. Once you learn how to do that, you can Spend Yourself Rich!"
