Book Description

From the popular, hysterical and award-winning blogger Jen of People I Want to Punch in the comes her literary debut. This book is the next destined-to-be holiday classic!

This is Jen's latest collection of humorous rants dissecting the “most wonderful time” of the year. She unleashes her biting wit and hilarious opinions on everything from cookie exchanges to annual humble brag Christmas letters from over achieving moms to horrifying Christmases of her childhood.

In this book you'll find such topics as:

The White Trash Dollhouse

Like a Neon Virgin in Guess Jeans and Swatch Watches

A Very Special Christmas: Hoarders Style

and, of course, the viral sensation: Over Achieving Elf on the Shelf Mommies

Reading "Spending the Holidays with People I Want to Punch in the Throat" will fill you with nostalgia -- in the same way you are filled with nostalgia when you see pictures of yourself wearing a Thriller t-shirt, red-suspenders and sporting a mullet in your 6th grade yearbook. Cringe-worthy because you remember the moment so well, hilarious because you are so glad someone else had the same experience!" -Robin O'Bryant, author of Ketchup is a Vegetable & Other Lies Moms Tell Themselves

“Jen's passionate and provocative writing packs a wallop. Her rants are hot-tempered, hilarious and full of heartfelt honesty (although she denies having a heart). Jen is fearless, unapologetic and authentic. People who don't read her stuff should be punched in the throat.” -Nikki Knepper, author of Moms Who Drink and Swear: How to Love the Little Bastards in Your Life

“Please read my mom's book, because it will make her feel pretty.” - Gomer, 7

“OMG, Mom, this book is so embarrassing for you.” - Adolpha, 5

About the Author:

Jen is the author of the popular blog. name pretty much says it all. It's not “Rainbows & Unicorns,” people. She's been accused of saying what everyone else is thinking and dropping the f-bomb liberally.

If you're not familiar with Jenners - this is a great introduction. Her blog is awesome, she's funny as hell, and a great writer. This makes a great addition to your library next to the Bible and that leather-bound edition of Moby Dick you want people to think you've read.

Just get it - $5 is less that like $1 a day for year. I think.

It's super cheap so if you want to see if you' ll like it, why not? But let me warn you, the comic genius on display for the blog post never shines again I'm sorry to say. I give it two stars because she does include the post, which is the funniest thing I can remember reading! I laughed so hard I cried. Seriously, I never do that. So, I was super excited about this book and so sorely disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kept me chuckling October 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book, including the format. I have two small kids and don't get much reading done these days so the essay style is perfect for me. I got thirty uninterrupted minutes tonight while my son was in swim lessons and I was laughing out loud. I find the author is so easy to relate to. She's hysterical and has a big heart, two of my favorite qualities in a writer.

Jen of People I want to punch in the throat is one of my favorite bloggers and she doesn't hold anything back. Love her sense of humor and she tells it like it is. I was laughing so hard I had tears when she was talking about how the Hubs had never seen A Christmas story. This is a great short read and as I said a good laugh. Keep up the good work Jen and would love to see another book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hilarious Quick-Read November 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm a relatively new fan of the 'PIWTPITT' blog, and I love both the blog and the book. The book is a quick-read, but it is absolutely hilarious. My personal favorites were the chapters were about Cookie Exchanges and the Fictitious Christmas Brag Letter.

I'm not complaining at all about the size of the book - it's priced accordingly. I was sad when it was over because I wanted more laughs! So Jen, next time, give us more, please!

Highly encourage you to check this book out or give it as a gift to a girlfriend. You will laugh, guarantee it!

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like to laugh - then you will love this book October 5, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Jen of People I want to Punch in the throat rocks! She delivers a set of hysterical essays on the holidays (not to worry - the notorious Over-Achieving Elf on the Shelf Moms is present and accounted for and definitely stands the test of time). Read it through once on my kindle (laughing all the way...) and will be revisiting throughout the season for stress relief as needed!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE this book! December 29, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book based only on it's title and the number of great reviews it got. The title attracted me because, while I love to spend time with my family at Christmas, inevitably there is always one unrelated, uninvited family who shows up to the function. This family consists entirely of PIWTPITT.

While at first I thought this book would be entirely about family members and friends who annoy the crap out of the author during the holidays, I discovered it was much more than that. This read draws from the author's views and experiences from her childhood to the present. Hilarious insights about Christmas cookies, OAM's (Over Achieving Mothers), The Elf on the Shelf, Christmas Santas and so much more.

From what I could tell, the author is about four years younger than me, and so much of what she wrote rang so true with me that I think we may have been separated at birth. Little People's McDonald's Playset? Check. Guess? acid-washed jeans? Check. Black Madonna bracelets? Check, please!!

I would have to say that if you are a female who did at least part of your growing-up in the 80s, you will absolutely love this book. For everybody else, give it a shot. It is really, really funny. One warning: If you take issue with cussing, this book is not for you. But like this author pointed out, she knows she has her peeps, and I think she's good with that.

Count me in, Jen! Hee-freakin'-larious!!

This was a gift so I cannot comment on the contents of the book. However, the title alone made the gift recipient laugh so that was enough.

Love reading her blog. Book is disappointing. Rather amateurish. I'm surprised it got published. I think I could have written this as a short story.
