Saw them in Bellingham on Saturday Night and bought the CD. He is the real thing and we have been playing this CD non-stop for the past two days. You will love how they bring everything together. Can't wait for the next release and to see them live again!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Wonderful!, August 7, 2004
This review is from: Spending Time (Audio CD)
LeRoy Martez Bell has a long and varied history when it comes to writing music. To my knowledge, the last solo album he put out before this one was a R&B album. I personally like old-timey folk music better than R&B, and I think the quality of music on this album is wonderful. Mr. Bell truly has a gift for the eclectic. By the way, he's also an all-around a nice guy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, unknown artist, July 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Spending Time (Audio CD)
This is one of the best "new" artists I've heard in years. I put "new" in quotes since Leroy has written songs for so many famous people, its hard to really call him new. That said, like everyone else here I agree the only downside to the album is there are not enough songs. I, for one, really hope he writes and records more of his own stuff in the future. Its first-rate!

If you ever have a chance to hear him live, I'd go in a second. I also heard him at the Third Door in Seattle. It was a fantastic performance!

I heard Leroy Martez Bell play live on my favorite Seattle radio station. I immediatly bought the CD and I can't stop listening to it. I too wish there were more than 6 songs on this disc. Leroy get back into the studio!

5.0 out of 5 stars Urban Poet, January 26, 2004

I had the absolute pleasure of seeing LeRoy Bell live at the Triple Door. The only disappointing thing about this cd is that it's not longer. While his emotive voice is at times reminiscent of Seal, his lyrics strike at the heart and are profoundly connected to what it really means to feel. His songs are individual, personal and touching. I especially love the way he has included the meloncholy and fluid cello. It was a fabulous performance, is a great cd and all I can say is: More!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding!, January 17, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Spending Time (Audio CD)
This is a quiet, haunting album that uses a mixture of acoustic instruments (guitar, cello, etc.) and electric base that has sort of a mellow, jazzy-bluesy feel. The vocals, sung by LeRoy Martez Bell, have a rough, hard-edged quality that suggest someone whose been around the block a time or two; someone haunted by loves lost and paths not taken.

I saw them live at a local place in Seattle and was consumed with the sound they put out and reduced almost to tears by the lyrics, which seemed to be speaking to me personally.

Highly recommended. The only drawback: Only six songs and no other albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Leroy fan, November 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Spending Time (Audio CD)
This is Leroy's first CD but it is so polished and well thought out and conceived you would never know it. If you get a chance to see him perform live, go. All of the tracks are great so no skipping over any! So spend some time, enjoy and he has 3 others to check out as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars Short but VERY sweet, January 22, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Spending Time (Audio CD)
One of the best singer / songwriters I've heard in a very long time. Passionate, soul-ful lyrics that stay with you. Instrumentation includes a very beautifully arranged cello (along with guitar, bass and percussion) which completes the emotion of each song. Leroy's voice is honest and clean and speaks directly to the listener. Only disappointment - only 6 tracks. I'm anxiously awaiting more from Leroy Martez Bell.
