1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing - not the Topsiders of my youth.
I'm guessing this latest pair is at least my 15th, and what junk they are. I've only had them a couple of months, and they're already falling apart. The insoles, which only span the rear half of the shoe, have separated from the rest of the shoe and will no longer stay put. They've curled up like parchment. The leather uppers have completely lost their shape. My son...

My new Topsiders have a better initial fit than all my previous pairs. I guess being produced in China has slightly changed the dimensions, in my case to the better.

This pair is the two-toned version (brown & black) which are best for traveling as they will go with any color clothing. They used to have another travel advantage as after 9/11 they were the only pair of shoes you didn't have to remove at airport security. The TSA folks knew they had no arch support and wouldn't set off the metal detectors. Unfortunately, during the last year the TSA now insist all shoes go through the x-ray machine.

I have owned many pair in the past several decades including the Gold Cup (which are the most comfortable with the best support - although a bit pricey) and this is the first pair that make my feet black when not wearing socks. Evidently, the dye they are now using is not colorfast. They have not been wet or worn on the water yet, they have only been worn in an urban environment. Hopefully, with age they will stop bleeding.

Otherwise, if they can correct the dye problem, they appear to be well constructed even though they are now made in China.

My son bought a pair at roughly the same time as I bought these, and his have suffered the same fate (he's only 15, and he's never had a pair before, so he's got a pretty bad impression of Topsider's at this point). While I can't imagine it could be relevant, I'll note my current pair are Sahara (as are my son's), while all my previous Topsider's were Classic Brown. Unless the quality flaws are peculiar to the Sahara color, all I can say is that Topsider's have really declined in quality. I'm used to these things lasting for a year or more (i.e., until the soles wear out; the insoles and uppers have never been a problem).

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what they once where!, December 25, 2009
I have worn Top-siders since the 70's. They have always (up until now) been my favorite shoe.
I don't fault Sperry going to China like most shoe company's, but there seamed to be no quality controls with there shoes now. A boat shoe should not bleed dye on your feet for months when they get wet. This is my first pair that the top stitching up by the laces pull out on both shoes. Now both soles have separated from the leather uppers. Sperry has lost a life long customer!Sperry Top-Sider Men's Authentic Original 2 Eye Boat Shoe

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk shoes - don't buy!, October 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Very expensive shoes that only lasted 35 days. The top split away from the soles. Good looking but cost about $2.00 a day for casual shoes. Do not get taken in by the name. These are junk.

1.0 out of 5 stars shoe is fine but the seller, October 7, 2011
it was a gift for my husband who wears Sperry shoes since 1985,he loves this shoes. But i received this shoe already with yellowish sole and after few wearing them it got cracks on it.He has the old pairs without any cracks or hardening of the sole. This pair probably stayed under heat or something,i dont know but i felt so sad that he was nearly falling down on the marble stairs because of the hard sole.i wrote an email to change it but they told that it can be possible in 60 days of purchase!with the box and etc.i will never buy from SHOEBUY again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not fit for boat use, September 21, 2010
These shoes have leather laces and strech when wet. They are so shallow that they easily slip off when the wet laces stretch. They also are very slipery when walking on wet gel coat. I'll use mine for boat shows only, they do look good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quality and wonderful color, March 15, 2007
I bought these shoes for my husband's Christmas gift. He loves them and is particularly pleased at the color mix of brown and black, very tastefully put together and can equally well go with both brown, tan and black trousers.
The service from the seller was excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, July 20, 2008
I love sperry products. After loosing my first pair of top-siders, I had to invest in another. They always fit right, easy to slip on, can easily get wet and not cause your feet to, they also look awesome.
