Product Description

Pestilence Doesn't Require Any Introduction. Known for Mixing Various Influences, from Thrash to Jazz, from Fusion to Classic Death Metal, the Band Has Become a Legend Long Before Its Final Split-up in 1993. Patrick Mameli (Guitar, Vocals), Randy Meinhard (Guitar) and Marco Foddis (Drums) Recorded their First Demo, Dysentery, in 1986. However, it was Only after the Penance, Recorded in 1987 with a New Member, Martin Van Drunen (Bass/Vocals), that the Band Caught the Attention of Roadrunner Records, who Agreed to Release their First Official Album "Malleus Malficarum" (1988). Pestilence Released Four Studio Albums During their Career. The Final One - "Spheres" from 1993 - Brought Along a Thrilling Mixture of Jazz-fusion Elements with Death Metal And, Thanks to the Extensive Use of Synth Guitars, Constituted a Totally New Quality in Aggressive Music.

5.0 out of 5 stars genius technical and progressive death metal, February 6, 2009
To be honest, at first I really did not like this album, I was too used to the "regular" death metal of the time: Morbid Angel, Death, Deicide etc to appreciate the genius behind this album.

But now, after all these years, I can say that this is the best metal-album ever made, in my opinion, it crosses so many dimensions.

I have stopped listening to most of my old death metal albums, but I still listen to this one frequently, this is really a timeless album that was way ahead of its time.

The music is complicated, technical, jazzy, experimental etc but still has the aggressive death metal feel.
The lyrics are psychological - Jungian influenced - and very deep for a death metal album, it doesn't follow the usual death-hell-suffering-butchery cliche.

I think this is why I still really enjoy it, it never gets boring to listen to and shows that death metal can be intellectual and still have the aggression.

4.0 out of 5 stars very brutal!!!, November 22, 2008
this was a brutal deathmetal band that was really on to something until their demise in 1993. very heavy, progressive like, intelligent music with traces of jazz fusion mixed in. the vocals sounded alot like chuck schuldner's of death but the music just makes up fo it in every way! makes me wonder how far they could've gone had they stayed together all these years.....

This is simple a must have album.

----------------------------------
