I'm not sure there is a difference between packaging. For me the box contained the Sphero Ball, the charging dock, the cable for the charging dock, and various pamphlets with information about using the Sphero.

Its synced through Bluetooth, and the Kindle Fire, I believe, runs Android apps. So in theory it should work. Though I recommend getting Sphero 2.0. They both work the same but 2.0 is more up-to-date

Only Sphero 2.0 is compatible with Windows 8 smart phones / Windows 8 tablets.

Yes. As long as your iTouch has Bluetooth it will connect. Though I recommend looking into the newer model of Sphero, Sphero 2.0.

I don't know about the newer kindle fires, but the apps will not loss on a first gen kindle fire.
