4.0 out of 5 stars Extensive compilation of Europop & Eurodisco hits, January 16, 2008
This review is from: Sphinx: the Best of 1976-1983 (Audio CD)
This 3-disc set is one of the most comprehensive compilations of Amanda Lear's music released to date. It draws on various singles and the albums I Am A Photograph (1977), Sweet Revenge (1978), Never Trust A Pretty Face (1979), Diamonds For Breakfast (1980), Incognito (1981) and Tam-Tam (1983) from her most productive period and includes hit songs in English, French, German and Italian.

Disc One offers her huge 1978 disco hit, the Faustian and atmospheric Follow Me plus pop hits like Hollywood Is Just A Dream, Solomon Gundie, La Bagarre, Fabulous and Tomorrow.

On Disc two, you'll find Queen Of China Town, the Italian Incredibilmente Donna, These Boots Are Made For Walking, The Sphinx, Love Amnesia and the German/English Lili Marleen, a disco hit from 1979.

Disc Three contains Fashion Pack (Studio 54), Enigma (Give A Bit Of Mmm), Blood And Honey, Gold and the catchy French song Egal from the Incognito album.

If you like Amanda Lear, be sure to check out her book Persistence of Memory: A Personal Biography of Salvador Dali, an account of her 10-year plus close friendship with the genius painter , whilst Saturday Night Forever: The Story of Disco by Alan Jones provides more info on her and other Eurodisco stars. The compilation Disco Nights, Vol. 3: The Best of EuroDisco, offers some great tracks from Amanda's contemporaries. Musically, the best introduction to Amanda remains her aforementioned disco concept album Sweet Revenge.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Compilation of Amanda's Ariola Years, September 15, 2008
This review is from: Sphinx: the Best of 1976-1983 (Audio CD)
As an Amanda fan, who has been listening to her music for more than one year, Ariola years of Amanda has been my favorite years of hers so far. The years in which she created some of the best disco tunes with her husky and unique vocals, Amanda proves how she combines her stage presence with her personal charisma with the best songs of her career. All throughout the 42 songs in the album, the listener definitely feels the disco fever inside, especially when it is time to hear some "Queen of Chinatown," "Follow Me", "Diamonds" and "Fashion Pack".

Actually, what makes this compilation unique for me is that it features tracks such as the "Darkness and Light" and "Love Your Body" , which are hard to find in other Amanda compilations with their original versions.

Overall, if you were unsatisfied with previous compilations of Amanda as I did, just grab it !
