5.0 out of 5 stars Great graphics and interesting gameplay
In this puzzle-adventure set in an Egypt-like location, you switch between two characters. One is Sphinx, a tail-toting teenage guy, and the other is a mummy.

The graphics in the game are great.Your tail swishes from side to side, the wooden bridges sag beneath your weight, your shadows move along with you. It has a cartoony feel to it, which is fine for its style. The...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but needs a little something for flavor.
On the good side the game is beautiful and flows smoothly. I've only had it a couple of days but the rendering is great I found it quite easly to get lost in the background and colors. The Movent of the characters we just as bewitching. The puzzles are not too chalenging but the keep you interested.

The smoke and fire aren't very well done, but those are always tricky.

While sound really shouldn't be a key for a game, it is sadly lacking in this one. The background music and ambient noises are OK, usually very faint. But this game has a ton of dialogue and there is no speaking! That might have been fine back in the days of Final Fantasy 8, but in this day and age it really feels lacking every time an important dialogue is going on and there is just ... silence.

The actual gameplay is very enjoyable. The characters' movements are smooth and natural, from swinging up a rope to leaping across chasms. Each map has enough area for you to explore and not feel stuck, but it's not so huge that you get lost. There are good assortments of puzzles and action sequences to keep both your fingers and your brain engaged.

Sure, a few of the puzzles are a bit hokey - but that's the case in any game. The save feature isn't great, but you learn to deal with that. In general it's a fun game for all ages!

The Movent of the characters we just as bewitching. The puzzles are not too chalenging but the keep you interested.

As for missing ingredient:

It seriously needs voice overs. The characters act like they're speaking as the captions are displayed but no sound. It is difficult to become one whith a character who has no voice, even Rayman made noises.

Secondly why on earth would you have a game that only lets you save on one module. In english you cannot save different parts of the game on seperat memory locations, you select the location at the begining of the game and you are stuck with it.

Lastly the game give you no clue of where you should be going. This is a plus and a minus. If you like to spend an hour looking for a key and another hour trying to figure out what to do with it great. I you want to find things quickly and get to the action, you're out of luck. There are no hints on less obvious puzzles. That frustrated me but once I figured out a puzle I was like "Oh" and moved on.

The game is great for Tomb Raider types you like puzzle solving get thing game (just use the voices in your head, since characterizations are not included) I would give it a 3.5 but Amazon does offer it.

This is a brilliant little game. Although little-known, any gamer who likes good story and imaginative world-design should pick this up. I love it, my daughter loves it - you will too...

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars....great game!, April 6, 2004

This game is fantastic!

The graphics are gorgeuos, and gameplay is a lot of fun. I could not put my controller down!

Its one of those games that makes you think the entire way, solving puzzles, how to beat the boss monsters. The puzzles are not too hard, not too easy....just hard enough to make it fun. I only needed internet help for 2 puzzles.

Played at least 30-40 hours in the end.

A must have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very fun game, February 18, 2004
This review is from: Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy (Video Game)
This is a very fun game:) You can control both Sphynx and the Mummy. U use the mummy if you want to rely on stealth and puzzle solving.

So whats the point in Sphynx???!!! I don't know

Pros
1No delays when making the game, (thank God)
2Long levels and pretty hard gameplay make it so that you are for once not wasting your money.
3Good story
4Lots of different moves, and puzzles and monsters so you don't get tired of the same moves, monsters,(etc)
5EXTREMELY FUN GAME

Cons
1No dialogue
2You cant save your game unless you approach a saving statue (sometimes their isn't a saving statue for the entirety of the level:(
3If you want to start the game over, you cant skip all the dialogue and talking

Overall, a fun game.

this game has amazing graphics and a good story line. it is not too hard but not to easy and keeps your mind challenged throughout. the only problem i had with sphinx and the cursed mummy is that there is no voice overs and you have to read every thing. overall its a solid action adventure game took me about 16 hours not including attempts that i never saved.

It's a very good game, easy, good looking and good enough play. It's worth the very low price. Only two things aren't fun in this game, you can't skip dialogue and a few bugs that sometimes make you start over a level (black screen and platform that aren't there)

This is a great game. It is easy enough to keep me interseted and hard enough to be a challange. I'm good at tetris, sonic, and this game.
You play Sphynx (he has a tail!) and Tut (who eventually gets turned into a mummy). The story line is still developing but evidently the Solar Disks were able to transport people to other locations (worlds?).
Sphynx's mission isn't exactly clear at first, except to get Osiris'(good god of the dead) sword and that's when Horus (Osiris' child in myth but i don't think they are using him as such here)gets lost. You then have to find your was back through the portals to Heliopolis (an actual place) and end up saving Tut by interupting an evil-ish ceremony. Your new mission is to recover the canopic jars (hold the organs of the deceased). oh yeah, and Tut's brother who killed him, Akenaten, well, he's really this vampyrish looking guy who hasn't been named so far. I hope he isn't Set because thats not what Set looks like...
There are lots of little puzzles and what not throughout the game and its fun, but they need voices. Its all in subtitles but if you're lucky, the character might make some kind on noise when you hit the the button to talk.
