1931 Newbery Honor winner,

This review is from: Spice and the Devils Cave (Hardcover)
This 1931 Newbery Honor award winner was not was I was expecting. It turned out to be about the spice trade from eastern Europe around the tip of Africa to India and the explorers mapping out the route. At first I thought I was not going to like it and before long found myself pulled into the adventure of the story and couldn't wait to find out what happened next. Some of the characters were actual explorers like Vasco DeGama and others were fictional. From the map maker to the ship builders this was a great book. It's hard to find and I was lucky to stumble upon a very old hard cover. If I were not on a mission to read all the Newbery books I would never have known this book existed because of the age of it. It would be great to have it republished and read by schools in the grades when children are learning about this particular trade route. I think historically the story is fairly accurate and as a kid if I had read this I would have remembered more about this subject matter.
