4.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Action Figure EVER
This thing is a triumph of art and design. It's incredibly fun to manipulate the figure in countless ways with it's 67 points of articulation. It's a terrific representation of the character and a great vehicle for dramatic imagination. Wow. I love it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for small hands...
My 6 year old son received this as a gift and went nuts - part of the fun (for him) was actually removing the 30 or so twistie ties from the back. Anyway, he loved it until he tried to pose it and it pinched his hand and he screamed for about 5 minutes (this coming from a bmx, skakeboard "tough guy"). So beware for little hands!

Finally, a gigantic 18" Spider-Man that can do (almost) any pose a real human can do! Clearly it has enough points of articulation. Even comes with a spring-loaded web launcher! The back and sides of the box boast the assorted poses it can do. It truly can be posed into nearly anything. But it also has some drawbacks, read on to find out.

My first impression of the figure (other than undoing a gazillion twist-ties to get it out of the box) has got to be the WEIGHT! It's pretty HEAVY, folks. If you're buying this for a little one, take into the fact of it's gargantuan size and weight. It can be a good thing, but sometimes it's weight is what makes it difficult to stand.

Second was the articulation itself. ToyBiz has a nasty little habit of making articulation points, but yet not making it very tight to HOLD the pose. If you own ToyBiz's stuff, you know what I mean. ToyBiz DID fix this problem on this figure...kind of. It's joints are kind of like gears! Instead of bending to pose, this figure has "gear" type roto-appendages in the pelvis, knee both joints, both arm elbow, foot, and chest joints. (Lego hinge pieces, or Power Ranger Megazord arms, are a moderate example of what I mean). Every single one of finger parts, as well as the toes, wrist, shoulder and thigh parts are like ordinary bend joints, and the head/neck and waist have swivel joints. ...But again, the weight of the figure sometimes is too much for some of the joints, and collapses on itself. (particularly the chest, in my case)

Finally, getting him to STAND was a challenge all in its own! It took me nearly 2 minutes to get him to stand in the same leg position with just a few arm or head changes. The roto-type joints are tight indeed...in fact, TOO tight. I had to use BOTH hands to get the elbow joint to work for the first time. Getting for him to take the pose you want -AND stand him- requires A LOT patience. Standing him wouldn't upset a little kid too much, but having difficulty posing Spidey just because the gear is too tight might.

Overall...I guess I'm pleased with it. But I'm now forced to question the safety of the toy. This IS NOT a standard action figure. It's HEAVY, and could cause alot of damage if thrown or dropped. Even though it says 6 & up, it takes me, a grown man, a lot of effort to pose it the way I want it, not to mention some moderate strength to lift the thing. Don't think dropping it would break it, it's a pretty sturdy, solid plastic build (except for the chest, which would crack under extreme pressure). I suggest buying one of the 12" Movie II figures that shoot water or flip; much less frustrating for younger kids. But hey, I DO think this figure'd make a perfect statue, wall mount, or conversation piece once posed and set in an eye-catching area.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOY OF THE YEAR, July 23, 2004

Alright so Toybiz said that they will release spiderman action figures even better than last year and they did that with there 18" spidey. seriously i mean "67" points of articulation, this giant spidey is the ultimate superposeable action figure. there's enough detail in this figure so that you could be making like a 100 poses, we're taking about every single knuckle can bend, the foot action is just beautiful. with this figure you can recreate your favorite spidey poses, i really wouldn't mind if the did a retro spidey. so if you like the spiderman comics, movies or action figures this is the must have.

Pros:
unlimited number of poses can be made.
the parts lock into place so they stay.
really detailed.

cons:
sometimes it's a bit heavy for a pose so it falls down.

But still one of the best action figures i've ever bought.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spidey Toy, July 20, 2004

I loved the movie SPIDER-MAN 2, so naturally this, above the plethora of spidey toys caught my attention and this is a great addition to my already huge collection of movie memorabilia. This SPIDER-MAN toy by TOYBIZ is a great collectable for the comic book enthusiast who likes impressive figures for displaying, and the amount of articulation is really cool. However this is not a particularly suitable toy for kids; it's heavy, cumbersome and since the movement is so extensive, the joints are somewhat fragile. The paint job is good though, and the amount of detail is welcome. Overall, a cool collector's item that looks very cool on my display shelf.

I am a graphic artist/illustrator and this figure is great for use as a drawing mannikin. Many of the wooden mannikins available for artists do not have the articulation like this figure does. You can produce many more poses with more fluidity. Not as stiff as regular drawing mannikins. But, speaking of stiff, some of the joints in this toy, particularly the ones in the hips are super stiff -- I was afraid I was going to snap his legs right off with the force I was applying to get the legs to rotate forward from the hip joint. Other Joints like the like the elbows were almost as tight. If you can look past the Spider-Man motif, the muscles are fairly accurate although slightly exaggerated but still a good reference model in that respect.

Over all, I agree this is not a toy suitable for kids with no patience or muscles to handle this heavy, tight jointed figure. 14 and up is my recommendation. To all artists out there who are not satisfied with the run-of-the-mill artists' wood mannikins -- I recommend this toy for a more than suitable replacement!

I bought 2. I'm a Nana that spoils on a regular basis. When I saw him, had to have him. One was an Easter goodie (made bunnie ears on a band for him to wear, and posed him with his arm around the basket helping himself), the other was for Nana's Playroom... he usually is sitting somewhere at Nana's house pointing at things to open or sitting in some awkward position waiting for his next little visitor. This guy is heavy, not a lite-weight. every joint and nuckle bends... he can make a fist or pick his nose. Some joints are a bit stiff at first, but it works out. We really love him... even Nana!

I have been collecting action figures for a long period of time. As always Toy Biz is revolutionizing the way action figures are made, hats of to them for being daring enough to tackle a figure on an 18 inch scale with such intricate detailing, and a job well done! The mechanics of this figure are the most advanced, the built, finishing and styling are both true to the actual character, extremely well designed and built. This is probably the best action figure I have ever owned.

Wow. That's all I can say about this 18" articulated Spider-Man action figure. It's absolutely amazing how many points of articulation they managed to place on one figure. From head to toe, there are more than 60, count 'em, 60 point of articulation.

The best part about this figure is that the articulation does not take away from the sculpt of the figure. It still remains to be a carbon copy of the "real" Spider-Man.

I would recommend this for kids and adults. It's great fun and will go perfectly with the super-articulated 18" Doc Ock which is scheduled for later this year!

I was surprised at how cheap this toy was for it's size, but after buying it, learned why.
I second everything Doctor Cain says about this toy, and have a few additionaly remarks.
I am impressed by the level of detail in the mold, and in the fact that they made wedges of plastic to cover every screw on the figure to make it look more seemless, but surprised that with all that attention to detail the paint job is pretty sloppy.
Though for the most part he will stay in whatever pose you put him in, I'm disappointed in how little his fingers resist weight. I realize I'm gettting a little asenine at this point, but I want to add emphasis to this massive toy by making him hold six-inch figures in his hand.
This is all coming from an 18-year old, though. I'd be really surprised if a 10-year old didn't think this was the coolest thing in the world.
