If you love spiders you'll love this book!!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Spider Boy (Hardcover)
I love spiders and that's why I read this book! A young boy named Bobby has just moved from Illinois. He's just moved to New Paltz, New York when he starts his new school but there is a boy named Chick Hall. Chick likes hassling him and starts calling Bobby "Boy from Illinois". Bobby was getting mad, at the same time he was worried because his girl tarantula Thelma wasn't moving a lot. Now
you read the rest.

This is a great book to get boys into some reading. Also good for discussion on being different and acceptance. Fletcher writes from his experiences as a boy and blends humor with reality.

Spider Boy by Ralph Fletcher is a pretty good book. It's about a kid named Bobby that moves to New York. He wants everyone to like him so he tells lies about where his dad works. Then a boy named Chic Hall finds out that Bobby likes spiders, and calls him Spider Boy. Later on, Bobby is pared up with a girl named Lucky for a project, and become friends. Towards the end, Bobby and Lucky go to to a party and dances. Then they become boy friend and girl friend. Chick also stops calling names.

A Great Book for the Young and the Old,
By A Customer
This review is from: Spider Boy (Hardcover)
Ralph Fletcher is a dynamic writer. If you have ever experienced the emotions of moving during your youth, you can readily identify with Bobby, the book's main character. Children who are fascinated with spiders will be intrigued. This realistic fiction will tug at your heart; connecting the reader to new and old memories of their youth. A great gift for yourself or your children. I recommend Fig Pudding, by Fletcher, too.
