5.0 out of 5 stars what's wrong with you people, July 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Spider-Man 2 (Video Game)
I was looking at this game, i checked out some of the reviews and i just really think that most of you people have no lives. Seriously, they say " i played for 15 hours straight and it gets boring", that's because you played for 15 hours straight, not because it's boring!! If you have a real life, you won't play for 15 hours and ruin the game in two days. I just had to say that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very high-quality game, February 16, 2005

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spider-Man 2 (Video Game)
This is one of my favourite games ever.

It's not quite perfect, though (might as well start with the cons so I can end on a good note). For one thing, while the action graphics (as in, while you are actually playing the game) are superb, for some reason the cut-scene graphics are horrible. Characters are square-looking, glitchy (Peter Parker shakes uncontrollably whenever he makes a hand gesture), poorly defined and generally irritating to look at. Also, the anonymous characters' (random passersby, etc.) voice dubs are rather annoying as well.

Apart from that, however, I have to say I love this game. Its best aspects are definetely the controls and camera angles. The controls are a bit complicated at first (although I've seen worse), but there is a clear tutorial at the beginning of the game and, once you get the hang of it, it's smoooooooth sailing. Actually, the basic controls are pretty easy, it's up to you if you want to learn the combos and the more fancy tricks. Spider-man's movements are incredibly fluid and pleasant to look at and New York City has been recreated in very great detail. The game has the same format as Grand Theft Auto, which means you can take breaks in between missions and just explore the city and do smaller missions or just swing around as much as you like. And the camera angles are very well-placed, which makes this game a real visual treat (apart from the cut-scenes): you'll be impressed by views of the sun setting over the Hudson river, seen from the top of the Empire STate Building - and then, jump and stop yourself at the last minute and see if your head doesn't spin and your doesn't heart race just a little... That alone is worth the price of the game.

Also, the dubbing by Tobey Maguire et al. is a nice touch and the dialogue isn't too bad (although they could have chosen a less used line than "He did kill my father, someday I'll get him for it, too." - but hey, let's not nit-pick) and the narrator's snide comments to the gamer are pretty funny and set a good atmosphere. There are tips and challenges scattered all over the city, too, in case you want a change of pace.

I haven't finished this game yet (I love video games, yet I'm really quite bad at them). I'm having some trouble with a particular mission, but I don't think this game is that difficult, it's a matter of practice. At any rate, it's a LOT of fun!

4.0 out of 5 stars The best Spider-Man game of all time, August 31, 2006
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spider-Man 2 (Video Game)
Not all movie based and licensed games have to be completely average or just plain bad. Spider-Man 2 isn't just the best Spider-Man game of all time, it's possibly the best super hero game of all time as well. Stepping above and beyond the first game, Spider-Man 2 allows you to take on the role of the web-slinger as you swing and fight your way through a completely free roaming New York City. And when I say free roaming, I mean free roaming. For the first time ever in a Spider-Man game, you can touch down on the ground and interact with pedestrians and accomplish missions to earn points to build up your stats and abilities. Along the way, you'll take on villains such as the Rhino and Mysterio, and of course Doctor Octopus, and film stars Tobey Maguire, Kirstin Dunst, and Alfred Molina reprise their roles from the film (and the great Bruce Campbell is back as well as your helpful guide throughout the game). The voice acting is great, the graphics are pretty good while your swinging (once you hit the ground running some of the other character models become a bit blocky), but the biggest downside of Spider-Man 2 is that the missions get repetitive after a while. Mostly it's rescue him/her, beat up group of people that's jumping you, stop robbery, help out cops, etc, etc., but you can't argue with the overall package. Between the Spidey games and the X-Men Legends games (don't get me started on the X-Men 3 game though), Activision knows how to do licensed super hero games, and Spider-Man 2 remains the best Spidey game of all time. All in all, if you've never taken the game for a spin, what are you waiting for?
