What's the Problem With Spider-Man 3?,
By
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spider-Man 3 (Video Game)
I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews on Spider-Man 3 the game. When I started playing this game, I thought wow, this game is awsome. I flick my wrist and out shoots a web line! I thought to myself, finally a spider-man game that makes me feel like spider-man. But after reading a few of the reviews,it seemes that alot of people don't like it because it's nothing new. Well, fine then, but if your a Spider-Man fan, like I am, then you will love this game. I've beaten it like 3 times already and I play it over and over again.
Buy the game, I think it is totally worth it.

The game, Spider-Man 2, was really quite a fun game since it was so exhilirating to swing everywhere. Yeah by the 25th balloon I had to save, it did feel monotonous but everything else was well-done. Including some of the villains that were sorely missed, Spider-Man 3 is basically the same thing with new features. With the Wii controls, it offers a different type of gameplay but polish is really lacking here as it feels unresponsive, lazy and even sluggish. Kids won't mind but this is definately not one of the better Spidey outings.
Story: It incorporates the storyline of Spider-Man having the Alien Symbiote attached to him (honestly I couldn't figure out where he even got it in the game). Doc Connors has mutated and rampaging through New York while rival photographer Eddie Brock gets the Symbiote and turns into Venom. Graphics: The textures just look...ugly. Buildings up close are fine if a bit repetitive and lack of more refined details while it seems like the higher up you go, the more fuzzy they get. And of course enemies pretty much have 4-5 different settings and you beat up each one over and over. At least now we can go into the sewers. Sound/Music: Voice acting remains largely intact with Tobey Maguire and co. providing their character voices. It's difficult to badmouth Maguire since he basically says the same things over and over (production thing). The best though is Bruce Campbell providing our Narrator voice. He gets some hilarious things going (my favorite is the Spider-Man who doesn't act Spider-y on walls. "You're just 'Man'? You're playing, 'Man 3?'" The music is fine but I barely notice. Gameplay: For swinging you use the nunchuk and Wii-mote. Press Z or B and swinging the controller will send you flying. It takes some getting used to but eventually you get hang of it, although I notice it was more comfortable to just use the Wii-mote. Fighting is different as well with shaking the Wii-mote making your combos, A button for kicks/uppercuts. It works fine but the controls are a bit dodgy since it's hard to gauge just how fast to swing and pressing the A is rather slow, causing you to press it 5-6 times before he even does his kick (by which time, enemies are already beating you up). The ideas behind the controls are fine it's just they don't have the responsiveness needed. As for the game itself, it's very much like 2: very mission-based but thankfully the side missions are kept to a minimum a bit. Some seem slightly inconsistent though. One boss fight took so long because his health went down like a paper sliver with every punch. The one thing that is a pain is that there's these moments that seem like warped reaction commands from Resident Evil 4 or Kingdom Hearts II: at certain points a graphic will display, telling you swing your nunchuk sideways or your nunchuk or both. But they go so far and your reflexes can only go so far so it's a bit of a trial-and-error at figuring out how fast to go. Do yourself a favor and rent Spider-Man 2. While we do get enemies like the Lizard and Venom, 2 is just way funner.

Spiderman 3 was fun. The controls are by far the best for the wii yet. Activision managed to take full advantage of the possiblities of the wii remotes. However, the graphics are just okay, as well as the sound. Still, this doesn't stop you from enjoying this game. Like I said, the controls here get an 11/10! There is a major drawback here, though. I beat this game in under 7 HOURS, not including extras. This story mode is UNBELIEVABLY SHORT! Upon beating this game, rather than being happy I was dissapointed that it ended so fast. I would advise you to rent this game or buy it cheap, but do not spend your $50 on this incredibly short game. Fun but not worth the price.

It's no secret that like the film itself, the video game tie-in for Spider-Man 3 is a disappointment on the consoles. The Wii edition of the game is no different, and what makes it even more disappointing is the fact that the game's attempt to make use of the Wii-mote is an ultimate failure. The game follows the plot of the film for the most part, as you play as Spidey in an open world New York and take on generic baddies as well as big time villains like Sandman, Venom, the New Goblin, and the Lizard to boot. The game attempts to make sue of the Wii-mote to swing through the city, which you'll either enjoy or hate, which along with the sloppy combat controls, really mar what could have been otherwise solid gameplay. The game's look is marred as well by an overly choppy frame rate combined with stiff character models. There are a few good points about Spider-Man 3 though, but they are few indeed. The game features voice acting from many of the principal actors from the film (including Tobey Maguire, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, J.K. Simmons, and Bruce Campbell who reprises his role as your video gaming guide) and swinging through New York City is still pretty fun. However, the repetitive gameplay gets boring, and the game has an overly linear feel to it as well. All that being said, Spider-Man 3 is worth checking out if you own a Wii and are a Spidey fan, but don't expect anything great from it at all.

pro:
-Bruce Campbell...nuff said. -web swinging is fun and intuitive. -good selection of spidey villains. -being able to level up and choose new abilities. con: -the city is extremely bland. How are you supposed to scour for bonus items in a city that all looks vanilla? -short story line. -fighting system is extremely simplified and boring. Could have been much better, sad to say not as interesting or fun as Spidey 2 or Ultimate Spidey, two games this one obviously raided heavily for ideas and mission designs.

After shown what was possible with Spiderman 2, this game is a BIG let down. The fighting is really boring and the graphics are bland. The webslinging is kind of fun once you get the hang of it, but that's the only good thing I have to say about this game. If you must play it, rent it, absolutely don't buy.

Best Spiderman 3 Experience out of any console!,

SM3 on the Wii has truly shown what the right minds with the right console can do. The game itself and the story may not have been all that great, but the web slinging with the Wii remotes was probably the most satisfying feeling I have had on the Wii. If you buy the 360,PS3 or PS2 versions you're going to get the same game, with almost nothing different. The Wii version offers you an amazing control scheme that can't be beat by any of the other consoles. If you really want to feel like spiderman swinging around the city, buy the Wii version!

If you love Spider-man as much as I do, and you just can't miss out on this game, and you have a Wii and either an XBox 360 or Playstation3, get it for the 360 or PS3. It just has a huger enviroment, more villians, more missions, and more everything. If you ony have a Wii as a major system and you already played Spider-man 2, then this game is definetly worth renting at BlockBuster for 5-8 bucks. The web-slinging is really fun, and i am sure you will beat the game within a week. Once you beat the final boss, venom, you will still be able to roam the city and do boring crime spree missions, but there really is no point. Do not buy this game.

Typical movie-themed game with some interesting twists,

If you are a fan of the previous Spidey games, you will probably enjoy this one. However, once I got over the joy of being able to Web around the city and crawl up walls using my Wii controller, the game did not hold my attention long. It's a pretty typical movie-themed game. I found the pace a little plodding and the action repetitive. However, the game has an EXCELLENT tutorial mode. Slinging your web to move around the city is challenging, but nothing you can't master with minimal practice. Graphics are solid (for the Wii) and the gameplay is fairly smooth. Had some problems controlling Spidey while he is wall-crawling. I agree with some of the reviews that the overall quality and "feel" in the game seem to indicate that it was rushed to market to be avaialable for the movie release. Games like this should be put on the market at a lower price point. There are some VERY good titles available for the Wii right now, this one is comparatively weak.

Spidey caught in a web of pointless plots!,

Spidey 3 for Wii started out great...getting used to the Wii Remote swinging was kinda tricky and first but the great old Bruce Cambell kept you in the game until you knew exactly what to do. Good training excersises. The graphics for this game lets face it its for the Wii so once again lets not complain we know what the Wii is only capable of. The cinematics however are amazing better then any other wii game ive seen its really close to the xbox 360 version. Well ill point out the problems first the game spends way too much time on pointless battles with several streeet gangs, some missions actually repeat twice or three times in order to get to the next level. New York city looks like crap in the game i know the wii is only capable of so much but hey they could had put a lil more detail the city is clean as hell...no (marketing on times square it just made no sense. The game is not keeping faith to what was not even such a great movie in the first place. I meen for bout a good 1 quarter of the game is spent fighting the lizard who is rumored to be in spidey 4 it kinda kills the mood a lil bit. However the game was really fun beating up the bad dudes....and finally fighting venom which took way to long to get to i think...any i dont recomment buying it just rent it at ur local video store like i did dont waste [...] dollars on this!
