Product Description
New edition in bold black and white! "It's about remembering someone so important to me I was going to spend the rest of my life with her." What Peter Parker didn't know was that meant Gwen Stacy would only get to spend the rest of her life with him. This is the story of how they fell in love. Or, more appropriately, how they almost didn't fall in love. Welcome to Spider-Man's life. Bad before good. It's kind of amazing. So, in order to get the girl of his dreams, he'll have to run the gauntlet of the Green Goblin, the Rhino, two Vultures and a mysterious man in the shadows controlling it all. Join Eisner Award-winning team of Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale (Superman For All Seasons, Batman: The Long Halloween, and Daredevil: Yellow) in the story about Spider-Man's first love, Gwen Stacy. Highlighted by the introduction of Mary Jane Watson, it is a critical moment in Spider-Man's life when everything was just coming together... only to fall apart. Collects Spider-Man: Blue #1-6.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Comic Fans, April 14, 2009
By V. Do (Orange County, CA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Spider-Man Blue is one of those stories that are considered classics in the comic book world. But what's great about it is that you really don't have to be a comic book fan to enjoy this story. The reason being is that the story takes place in Spider-Man's early days as a hero, and Spider-Man and his villians are almost the background to the story. The main story is Peter Parker's love for Gwen Stacey. The dialogue is beautifully scripted, the tale of Spider-Man's first love, Gwen Stacey is eloquently told, and the art is simply stunning.

While Jeph Loeb has written some real duds lately, Spider-Man: Blue is one of the reasons why he is considered a legend in the medium. Loeb's stregnth as a writer is drawing the readers in emotionally to really care about the characters. You can't help but wrap yourself around Peter and Gwen's story and root for them.

Its strange to describe a Comic book or "graphic novel" as romantic, but Blue truly is. Its romantic without being sappy and its tragic, without being depressing. Overall, this is a terrific read for everybody, and a must have for any comic book fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Heartfelt Story Weaved By Mary Jane and Gwen Stacy, June 7, 2009
By Tyler S. "Tyler" (Brentwood, CA United States) - See all my reviews
Jeph Loeb made me feel like I was Peter Parker in this novel. I felt like I was the one having the heartache between Mary Jane and Gwen. This is a more intellectual approach at how Spider-man handles the tragedy of Gwen Stacy, and we all needed it. Don't come into this expecting awesome brawls with baddies, because they really are mostly used as props. Gwen Stacy is the real center of this story.

I loved the novel, Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale always impress me. However, I connect much more deeply with the writing than the artwork in this series. I almost dislike the drawings of the male faces. They worked really well in the Batman novels, but here it seems like the artistic creativity was mostly concentrated in the women and costumes. This is just a little thing where as someone were to ask, "Why Four stars?" This would be my reply.

For any Spider-man reader, this is definately a must read. It is a story that needed to be told, and this is some of Jeph Loeb's best work. He truly pulls out a lot of his great writing ability in this book. Also I think I got the most recent hardcover edition, and I love it. It has some concept art as well as a lot of writer notes. I would say it's an essential piece in my comic collection.
