One of the top Spidey novels in the series.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Spider-Man: The Gathering of the Sinister Six (Paperback)
Spidey has the greatest cast of villians in the comics. Here in this wonderful book by Adam Troy-Castro, the Sinister Six are gathered by a mysterious man who has some kind of secerat plan to destroy Spider-Man. The ending of this book only makes you wonder what plan this will form into. According to more recent information from the publisher, Book Two of this trilogy should be out in late 2000 and Book Three sometime in 2001. I can wait for it.

Adam-Troy Castro writes a GREAT Spider-Man story,

What an enjoyable read. Great story. Exciting.
I really enjoyed the descriptions and development of the characters. The Gentleman was someone to be feared and hated after just a couple of pages. He was chilling. But, I especially appreciated the authors treatment of Mary Jane, and the relationship between her and Peter. Her character really came to life here... Can't wait to start the next in the trilogy.

Can't Wait for Part II,
By Rob McKenzie-Kerr (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Spider-Man: The Gathering of the Sinister Six (Paperback)
The book was a very good read. Unlike other (recent) novels on Spider-Man this one drew on the wealth of background information on the character from his many comic series - without going over board or assuming the reader is aware of every aspect of the Spider-Man mythology.I also like the fact that this book does not have Venom - this super villian seems to have had a lot of exposure in other books (and that is not to say I don't like the character). But the gathering of the Six has a lot of plots to follow which kept my attention through out the entire book. Too bad the publisher could not tell me when Parts 2 and 3 will be available. If it is any longer I may have to re-read the book to keep the story fresh in my mind. But I'll be ready to get the next two instalments.

I'm glad i managed to find a copy for under $20, it's going for around $100 now. I read the other two and then spent a year trying to get this first one. It was well worth the wait, though i'm not sure if it was the best of the trilogy.

This is by far the best Spidey novel I have ever read.,
This review is from: Spider-Man: The Gathering of the Sinister Six (Paperback)
This book has it all. Great fight scenes, wonderful dialog, and an ending that has you on the edge of your seat. I especially liked the part where Spidey webs the explosion-loving director's mouth shut after going on the warpath about Spidey ruining the scene.

I want Part 2 now!,

I think that this is one of the best Marvel Books I have read. My favorite part was during the Broadway when the shark came out of nowhere and ruined the play. In the end when Peter and Mary Jane are looking through the photo album and they found out he has a sister. I think that his sister is Pity. Yet you never with these kind of books.

A terrific start off to a trilogy,

I'm a fan of Spider-Man, and I have to say that this book is really good. The characters and battles are described really well. Not to mention that it's a perfect start to a trilogy, with the Villians getting ready for prime-time combat. Plus this book has Mysterio as a great villian and a dangerous one at that, because he becomes a killer and poses a major threat to everyone. I can't wait for the sequel when the Sinister Six are ready and the Gentleman's plans for Spidey are revealed.

Worth seeking out for comics fans; this story is like a good six-issue run of the Spider-Man comic-book that was conveniently transcribed into a single volume of prose. Just the right mix of melodrama, action, mystery, and witticisms keep things chugging along. Strange, though, that this volume is out of print while the two other parts of the "Sinister Six" trilogy are still easily available. Still, a used copy isn't that hard to find, especially online.

Not as good as the other books,

Gathering of the Sinister Six is an okay book for a Spider man fan, but the other books in the trilogy are far superior. The main crux of this book is Spidy fighting Mysterio while the Chameleon gathers various other Spidy Villians in other chapters. It's a fun quick read but I'd recommened the other books in the series much more highly.

I love the old time Spider-man shows and these Adam Troy Castro books bring out all the fun memories of wathing the old cartoons and reading the comic books.
The title of the book is a little misleading, 90% of the book is about Mysterio and 10% is about the Gathering. Regardless of that it really is a great book. Plenty of action, plenty of plot and just a lot of fun to read. Mysterio is a very intriging and interesting villian. It was great to learn more about him. I think they could do a lot with him if they ever made a Spider-man movie with him as the main or at least one of the main villians. The only negative thing about this book is finding it. It's out of print... none of the libraries in my city (Salt Lake) had a copy. So I had to fork out $25 to buy a slightly used copy on Amazon. It was worth the price of admission. Enjoy! |
