Going with the previous success with the first Spider-Man soundtrack, I figured that the second one would probably be good too. Well, although at first I was not too impressed, I listened to it a few times and realized it's a good cd. I especially like the first five songs with Dashboard's Confessional's Vindicated being my favorite. The train song is really good and the Jet song, which I believe was the only song actually used in the movie, was also good. Those first five songs make it four stars for me.

Best Soundtrack CD Ever!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Spider-Man 2 - Music From And Inspired By (Audio CD)
Let me just say first of all, that this CD was excellent. It basically had all of my favorite bands and smashed them together into one, magnificent, brilliantly-made CD. The movie better be this good, because if it is, i'll be going to it every weekend. Here's how I rate the songs:1. Dashboard Confessional-Vindicated: This is an excellent song to start off the CD, and it is well worthy of becoming yet another hot single for DC. 10/10 2. Train-Ordinary: This is a darker, more hard rock approach by Train, and it doesn't dissapoint. Although it isn't as great as Dashboard Confessional's "Vindicated", it is one of their best songs. 9/10 3. Hoobastank-Did You: This song is from one of my favorite bands, but I did not like it as well as I thought I would. However, it was not disappointing enough for me not to listen to it over and over again. Overall, good. 8.5/10 4. Jet-Hold On: This song is yet another great performance by Jet. This song is very fun to listen to. 9/10 5. Yellowcard-Gifts and Curses: Yellowcard is my favorite band, and it is proven yet again by this amazing song. There is a violin solo and a guitar solo in it. It has amazing and catchy lyrics, and this is the best song on the CD. 11/10 6. Maroon 5-Woman: Maroon 5 sure likes to make slow songs. "Woman" is another example of this. Even though it is slow, it still is catchy. 8/10 7. Taking Back Sunday-This Photograph is Proof (I Know You Know): I don't know what all the buzz is about this group because I am not that familiar with them. But anyway, I agree that this is an amazing song. It gets a little redundant towards the end, but I can handle that. 8/10 8. Midtown-Give it Up: This song is made excellently and I believe the the song is great when the guitar solos come on. The chorus is great, and I am so excited when I listen to it every time. 9/10 9. lostprophets-Lucky You: I loved the lostprophets first single "Last Train Home", and I haven't heard anything else from them except "Lucky You". Let me tell you that "Lucky You" doesn't even come close when talking about a good melody. It is one of the weakest tracks on the CD. 7/10 10. Smile Empty Soul-Who I Am: Surprisingly enough, even though I don't like this band that much, I loved this song. It was very catchy, and I listen to it over and over again. Doesn't dissapoint, that is for sure. 8.5/10 11. The Ataris-The Night That The Lights Went Out in NYC: This is another hit by the Ataris. They always have had great music, and this supports that remark. Brilliantly done. 9.5/10 12. Ana-We Are: This was a pretty good song, and I liked it. Weak at the beginning-middle, but got better. 8/10 13. Jimmy Gnecco featuring Brian May-Someone to Die For: This is a great slow song, and has great lyrics. 9/10 14. Danny Elfman-Spidey Suite: This begins the instrumental part of the CD. I don't usually listen to instrumental parts of CD's, but this was overall good. 8/10 15. Danny Elfman-Doc Ock Suite: I really could not tell a big difference between this one and track 14, except this one was a bit darker. 8/10 Overall, this CD is a DEFINITE BUY. It is very worthwhile, and I recommend it to anybody who wants some great music to listen to anytime of the day. Overall, I give this album a 10/10.

Soundtrack Pefection,

So what is it that makes a good soundtrack album a good soundtrack album? Well, for me, the most important thing is cohesion. I ask myself: does the album work as a whole, does one song flow into the next while maintaining the feel of the movie, and perhaps even enhancing the movie going experience? In the case of the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack the answer is YES!Usually I don't go for the kind of slick "Matchbox 20 rock," this album is chock-full of, but ultimately it won me over completely. Heck, I even like the TRAIN song on this album, and I hate TRAIN! But on this album their song works. A mellowed out tune by JET works, even neo-punk-meisters Yellowcard works. Even the guitar work of the mighty Brian May of Queen works in adding a tinge of eighties arena rock goodness. Like the film, the soundtrack carries tones of meloncholic isolation that give way to an uplifiting acceptance. The final two instrumental tracks from the original score album by Danny Elfman are excellent cappers and send you soaring right back into the film. I highly recommend this album for not only fans of the movie, but for those who like to just hear a good album, one that carries a theme and works as a whole--one that will be on repeat in your CD player for a long time to come.
