5.0 out of 5 stars Best Soundtrack CD Ever!
Let me just say first of all, that this CD was excellent. It basically had all of my favorite bands and smashed them together into one, magnificent, brilliantly-made CD. The movie better be this good, because if it is, i'll be going to it every weekend. Here's how I rate the songs:

I am a huge fan of movie scores. I just came back from seeing Spiderman 2, and I must say that everything in this movie was done with some special TLC including the orchestral score by composer Danny Elfman.

I wish that Sony would release a full score soundtrack instead of the paltry 15 minutes in the 2 tracks which are just "compilations" of the music. The...

4.0 out of 5 stars Hope, dangles from a string...., July 21, 2004
This review is from: Spider-Man 2 - Music From And Inspired By (Audio CD)
Going with the previous success with the first Spider-Man soundtrack, I figured that the second one would probably be good too. Well, although at first I was not too impressed, I listened to it a few times and realized it's a good cd. I especially like the first five songs with Dashboard's Confessional's Vindicated being my favorite. The train song is really good and the Jet song, which I believe was the only song actually used in the movie, was also good. Those first five songs make it four stars for me.

Let me just say first of all, that this CD was excellent. It basically had all of my favorite bands and smashed them together into one, magnificent, brilliantly-made CD. The movie better be this good, because if it is, i'll be going to it every weekend. Here's how I rate the songs:

1. Dashboard Confessional-Vindicated: This is an excellent song to start off the CD, and it is well worthy of becoming yet another hot single for DC. 10/10

2. Train-Ordinary: This is a darker, more hard rock approach by Train, and it doesn't dissapoint. Although it isn't as great as Dashboard Confessional's "Vindicated", it is one of their best songs. 9/10

3. Hoobastank-Did You: This song is from one of my favorite bands, but I did not like it as well as I thought I would. However, it was not disappointing enough for me not to listen to it over and over again. Overall, good. 8.5/10

4. Jet-Hold On: This song is yet another great performance by Jet. This song is very fun to listen to. 9/10

5. Yellowcard-Gifts and Curses: Yellowcard is my favorite band, and it is proven yet again by this amazing song. There is a violin solo and a guitar solo in it. It has amazing and catchy lyrics, and this is the best song on the CD. 11/10

6. Maroon 5-Woman: Maroon 5 sure likes to make slow songs. "Woman" is another example of this. Even though it is slow, it still is catchy. 8/10

7. Taking Back Sunday-This Photograph is Proof (I Know You Know): I don't know what all the buzz is about this group because I am not that familiar with them. But anyway, I agree that this is an amazing song. It gets a little redundant towards the end, but I can handle that. 8/10

8. Midtown-Give it Up: This song is made excellently and I believe the the song is great when the guitar solos come on. The chorus is great, and I am so excited when I listen to it every time. 9/10

9. lostprophets-Lucky You: I loved the lostprophets first single "Last Train Home", and I haven't heard anything else from them except "Lucky You". Let me tell you that "Lucky You" doesn't even come close when talking about a good melody. It is one of the weakest tracks on the CD. 7/10

10. Smile Empty Soul-Who I Am: Surprisingly enough, even though I don't like this band that much, I loved this song. It was very catchy, and I listen to it over and over again. Doesn't dissapoint, that is for sure. 8.5/10

11. The Ataris-The Night That The Lights Went Out in NYC: This is another hit by the Ataris. They always have had great music, and this supports that remark. Brilliantly done. 9.5/10

12. Ana-We Are: This was a pretty good song, and I liked it. Weak at the beginning-middle, but got better. 8/10

13. Jimmy Gnecco featuring Brian May-Someone to Die For: This is a great slow song, and has great lyrics. 9/10

14. Danny Elfman-Spidey Suite: This begins the instrumental part of the CD. I don't usually listen to instrumental parts of CD's, but this was overall good. 8/10

15. Danny Elfman-Doc Ock Suite: I really could not tell a big difference between this one and track 14, except this one was a bit darker. 8/10

Overall, this CD is a DEFINITE BUY. It is very worthwhile, and I recommend it to anybody who wants some great music to listen to anytime of the day. Overall, I give this album a 10/10.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack Pefection, July 11, 2004
This review is from: Spider-Man 2 - Music From And Inspired By (Audio CD)
So what is it that makes a good soundtrack album a good soundtrack album? Well, for me, the most important thing is cohesion. I ask myself: does the album work as a whole, does one song flow into the next while maintaining the feel of the movie, and perhaps even enhancing the movie going experience? In the case of the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack the answer is YES!

Usually I don't go for the kind of slick "Matchbox 20 rock," this album is chock-full of, but ultimately it won me over completely. Heck, I even like the TRAIN song on this album, and I hate TRAIN! But on this album their song works. A mellowed out tune by JET works, even neo-punk-meisters Yellowcard works. Even the guitar work of the mighty Brian May of Queen works in adding a tinge of eighties arena rock goodness.

Like the film, the soundtrack carries tones of meloncholic isolation that give way to an uplifiting acceptance. The final two instrumental tracks from the original score album by Danny Elfman are excellent cappers and send you soaring right back into the film. I highly recommend this album for not only fans of the movie, but for those who like to just hear a good album, one that carries a theme and works as a whole--one that will be on repeat in your CD player for a long time to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars Spider-Man 2 Official Soundtrack, July 1, 2004
This review is from: Spider-Man 2 - Music From And Inspired By (Audio CD)
I've come to realize that I'll buy just about any Spider-Man soundtrack that comes out, because Part 1 is one of my favorite CD's and this one is up there with it, but Part 1 was better slightly, this is still a GREAT buy though...

01. Dashboard Confessional - Vindicated ~ 10/10
- A great song, I hate Chris Carraba because he left Further Seems Forever, but I have to give him props on this song, it's just good.
02. Train - Ordinary ~ 9/10
- This is just a fun song, it's a different sound for Train, and I must say, I think everyone's digging it...
03. Hoobastank - Did You ~ 7/10
- This gets kind of annoying after a while, I loved Hoobastank with their first two albums, but when The Reason hit the air waves, all these teeny boppers start digging them, screw that, I like the old Hoobastank, this song's okay...
04. Jet - Hold On ~ 3/10
- Jet has some hot song, but this one is horrid...
05. Yellowcard - Gifts And Curses ~ 10/10!!!
- This IS the best song on the CD, it has great lyrics and musicianship, Yellowcard have really grown since Ocean Avenue and I am looking forward to their next album if it's anything like this song.
06. Maroon 5 - Woman ~ 4/10
- Too jazzy for my taste, plus not a big Maroon 5 fan...
07. Taking Back Sunday - This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know) ~ 8/10
- Okay, TBS is my favorite band and I really had high expectations for this song, but it turned out to be "Aight" in my book, the vocals get too whiny in the chourus, their other songs from their new album sound 20 times better than this for TBS fans reading...
08. Midtown - Give It Up ~ 7/10
- Not a fan of this, but it's still good though...
09. lostprophets - Lucky You ~ 5/10
- Not a hit for lostprophets on here, they should've put an unreleased track on here, but they put one of the more unpopular tracks from 'Start Something' on here, if you're buying for this song, just buy the new lostprophets album instead.
10. Smile Empty Soul - Who I Am ~ 7/10
- Sort of an up beat version of 'Silhouettes' to me, it's pretty good though.
11. The Ataris - The Night That The Lights Went Out In NYC ~ 9/10
- This is a good song, The Ataris took a hot title and made a hot song, I like The Ataris, they're great band.
12. Ana - We Are ~ 8/10
- No clue who these guys (or girls) are, but I like...
13. Jimmy Gnecco featuring Brian May - Someone To Die For ~ 4/10
- I'm just not feeling this song, not my taste I guess...
14. Danny Elfman - Spidey Suite ~ (Insturmental)
15. Danny Elfman - Doc Ock Suite ~ (Insturmental)

**Remember, those are only my opinions, don't let them stop you from buying this great CD, it's really worth the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for a soundtrack, December 28, 2005
This review is from: Spider-Man 2 - Music From And Inspired By (Audio CD)
Definitely better than the first movie's soundtrack. Vindicated by Dashboard Confessional is probably the most recognized song from this soundtrack and I find okay I'm not a big fan of Dashboard, but I was pleasantly surprised by this album. I even liked the songs by bands that I am not to fond of such as Yellowcard(builds up nicely in the middle and the violin adds a little something extra). Train and the Ataris also contribute good songs for the soundtrack. The tracks I would highlight are by Jet(are very good when they slow down), Midtown(totally rocks) and Taking Back Sunday(another good uptempo song). But the track I enjoy the most is "Someone To Die For" by Jimmy Gnecco(Ours) and Brian May(Queen) Jimmy has one of the best singing voices on the music sceen right now and Brian May has an incredible guitar sound all his own and both artists really sound good together. Definitely a sound track worth buying.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Soundtrack, December 31, 2004
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Spider-Man 2 - Music From And Inspired By (Audio CD)
The soundtrack to the movie "Spiderman 2" is a really great album. It's the only place to find Dashboard Confessional's wicked song "Vindicated" other than purchasing their single. I love Train and the song "Ordinary" was no disappointment. The song by Hoobastank is no match for "The Reason" and is rather mediocre. I was pretty shocked at Maroon 5's song "Woman". I love this band but that song stinks. Yellowcard proved themselves once again with "Gifts and Curses", creating one of the best songs on the album. The rest of the cd is so-so but that is overshadowed by a few outstanding singles. The last two tracks are orchestrations of the Spiderman and Doc Ock Suite. They are also great. I highly reccommend this cd especially if you enjoyed the original Spiderman soundtrack and the Daredevil soundtrack.

I wish that Sony would release a full score soundtrack instead of the paltry 15 minutes in the 2 tracks which are just "compilations" of the music. The rock music is good for their own CDs, but please someone tell the recording industry to at least publish the musical score they spend so much money on in the recording studios anyway for the film itself.

This CD is worthy of just getting Dashboard Confessional's song Vindicated. I must say the film Spiderman 2 really surprised and amazed me... It was so damn good. Beyond good. Just poetic and artistic.

4 jet- hold on (9/10 another really pretty song)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Soundtrack for Music Lovers, December 8, 2006
This review is from: Spider-Man 2 - Music From And Inspired By (Audio CD)
As far as movie soundtracks go, "Spider-Man 2" is decent with a variety of songs that any music lover would enjoy. The CD starts with the heavy hitting "Vindicated" by Dashboard Confessional and continues rockin' through Train's "Ordinary", Hoobastank's "Did You" and into the classic feel of "Hold On" by Jet and the rock ballad for Mary Jane, "Gifts and Curses" by Yellowcard. The soundtrack changes gears a bit with the funky beat of "Woman" by Maroon 5 and shifts back to the rock `n' roll style with "This Photograph Is Proof" by Taking Back Sunday and Midtown's "Give It Up". The vocals for "Lucky You" by lostprophets are a bit softer but still continue the rock theme along with "Who I Am" by Smile Empty Soul. "The Night That The Lights Went Out In NYC" by The Ataris is one of the more melodic rock ballads on the CD as is "We Are" by Ana, which quickly reveals a harder edge. "Someone to Die For" by Jimmy Gnecco definitely feels like a Queen influenced ballad probably due to Brian May's work on the song. "Spidey Suite" and "Doc Ock Suite", both by Danny Elfman, are orchestral numbers.

Train's "Ordinary" had to be my favorite. It's a well-rounded rock song with a great beat, vocals and sound. A close second would have to be Jet's "Hold On" for its classic rock/melodic feel, Midtown's "Give It Up" for its upbeat rhythm, "Someone to Die For" by Jimmy Gnecco and Brian May because it's reminiscent of Queen (since I'm a fan of their music, I'll be a bit biased towards that one) and "Doc Ock Suite" because it seems to be more inspired than the one for Spidey.
