2.0 out of 5 stars Gets boring after a while
Spider-Man: Web of Shadows for the PSP plays pretty much like the PS2 version of the game; note the subtitle that reads Amazing Allies Edition. Instead of using the tried & true open world New York City playing style that has been implemented since Spider-Man 2 (and is used on the other versions of Web of Shadows), this PSP version is a 2-D side scroller-ish beat 'em up...

Spider-Man: Web of Shadows for the PSP plays pretty much like the PS2 version of the game; note the subtitle that reads Amazing Allies Edition. Instead of using the tried & true open world New York City playing style that has been implemented since Spider-Man 2 (and is used on the other versions of Web of Shadows), this PSP version is a 2-D side scroller-ish beat 'em up. Yeah, it's the 16-bit era of superhero video games all over again, and things haven't changed much either as you'll find here. You play as Spidey, pick up various power-up's, have an occasional team-up with some fellow Marvel heroes, and take down hordes upon hordes of bland baddies and the occasional boss as well. While there is a degree of fun to be had, Web of Shadows does get pretty boring after a while, especially considering that it doesn't take you long to see what all the game has to offer, which the PSP version has little. Still, the game doesn't look or sound bad one bit, and there is a decent amount of power-up's and unlockables to find, plus the game's story is fun and makes good use of Spidey and his supporting cast of allies and villains. All in all, if you own a PSP and are a Spidey fan, Web of Shadows is worth a rental and nothing more. If you're craving another open-world Spidey adventure though, you won't find it here.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!, October 24, 2008

This review is from: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (Video Game)
This game is not fun even for the most hardcore Spidey fans. I should know. I've been playing Spidey games since the Atari 2600. Let's put it this way. The XBOX 360 and PS3 versions are full-grown video games. This game is the equivalent of a 1995 SNES game. 2D and absurdly poor. The power-ups are weak, the bad guys are insanely easy and the bosses are ridiculously difficult. No voice overs? Come on, is this really a 2008 ready for shelves game? Embarrassing! Do you want to be super mom or dad this Christmas? Spider-sense tingling. Avoid this game.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poorly made game., April 8, 2010
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (Video Game)
I have played a lot of spiderman games but this one has to be the worst one. The only plus side is that it's very addictive. Other than that, it was boring stale and repetitive. The enemies were very easy and the bosses were hard to the point where they were nearly impossible to beat. The cut scenes were pathetic, all they were was a bunch of Freeze frame pictures and dialog. I haven't seen cut scenes like that since the early 90's. Also, it took me about 3 days to beat. There's $30 down the tube!! The final boss was a lot easier than all the other bosses in the game. It looks like a lump of crap with tentacles. The ending was just plain BAD!!!! All it says is, "Congratulations, you saved the world!!!" No cut scene at all. I haven't seen a cut scene that bad since that Rampage game for the old school NES. Buyers beware.

3.0 out of 5 stars Spiderman intermittently, April 11, 2009

This review is from: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (Video Game)
This game wasn't much of a challenge. I know there are 2 levels of play, and I chose easy, but they still load you up with a ton of power-ups that I can't imagine hard being terribly difficult. Also, it's a pretty short game. I beat it pretty quickly. I can see the replay value in it, but only if you've got nothing else to do. You can build up your black suit/red suit personae, but after you beat the game once, this isn't much of a motivating factor to replay. But, the gameplay is fun, even though it's short. And the storyline is cool too. A good game to pick up now and again. Not for heavy gaming.

As a Marvel fan, with me, this is another one of my Marvel collection. There are about fifteen Marvel heroes and villains in this game.I like it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Ads, this game is not what you see on the Video. Version on PSP/PS2 is different., October 26, 2008
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (Video Game)
I agree with Brian P. Rogers. On the PS3, that's a game. For the PSP is a different game like 2D. And the funny thing is the same on the PS2. I don't understand why they released this game this way like a SNES game when we are in 2008. The videos they have here are misleading since you won't see any of those moves or go around buildings, or see cars running on the roads, etc. To see those things you need a different system, not the PS2 or PSP. And $40? an Atari game is not worth that. They could've made the same game on the PSP, or something similar. They have done it with many games (Tomb Raider Anniversary, Star Wars games, Tony Hawks, Lego Indiana Jones, etc) I guess they are making games different for each system so that people buy the expensive systems.
