Book Description

June 17, 2004
When Anna's husband Carl tells her that he's been offered a job in a different part of the country, she's as happy to move as he is. While she enjoys city life, her second career as a novelist is going nowhere, and she hopes that in the small Dorset village of Abbots Newton, inspiration might return. After the move, however, she finds it's quite a different story. With few ideas for her new novel and little else to do, life in the country isn't quite what she'd imagined. But all that is set to change when Anna discovers something unexpected: Rebecca Fisher, the notorious child murderess of the 1960s, was the previous owner of their cottage. At first, Anna is simply curious and reads up on the case that shocked the nation decades ago. Yet the more she learns about Fisher, the more determined she becomes to reveal the truth, a truth which has remained unexplored for over thirty years. But someone else has other ideas. As an unseen enemy threatens her marriage, her safety and ultimately her life, Anna finds herself unable to turn back. By understanding Rebecca Fisher, she might just be able to save herself...

Editorial Reviews

Review

'The Spider's House is a complex journey which... embarks on a path of chilling discovery that'll have the hairs on the back of your neck standing on end. Diamond twists the coils of suspense to breaking point and in so doing, delivers a first-class psychological thriller that's probably best read with the lights on.' -- Shari Low DAILY RECORD 'An unbelievably chilling insight into the mind of a murderess... This gripping and unsettling book is bound to have you reading into the night... The final pages sent shivers up my spine and were written so masterly I could almost smell Anna's fear.' PETERBOROUGH EVENING TELEGRAPH '...spooky and fascinating... not a book to read if you've just moved to some far-flung hamlet.' MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS 'This is the kind of thriller that starts off quietly and ends up with you gripped by the need to get to the end, but too scared to read it before going to sleep.' BSKYB TELETEXT 'Sarah Diamond develops her tale from such innocuous beginnings towards a shatteringly scary climax... a well-crafted book with suspense carefully maintained.' -- Jennifer Palmer REVIEWING THE EVIDENCE ' a first-class psychological thriller that's probably best read with the lights on.' DAILY RECORD 'Diamond skillfully builds a sense of menace as Anna realises her marriage, and her life, may be at risk, and the story ends with a clever and unexpected twist.' WESTERN DAILY PRESS
