5.0 out of 5 stars A crime this is out of print (for now)
But its cheap used.

This is one of the best albums of the last decade...not a mild compliment. Somehow Cornershop got all the credit for this kind of quirky sampling and mixing it up. Space has an even better sense of humor...and are ready to totally pimp themselves out by doing a clubby goof-off song (Growler).

My cd is worn down to the level of wafer thin. A disc...

3.0 out of 5 stars hmmm...
Listen to this CD, and you will instantly be entranced by Neighbourhood, Female of the Species, and You and Me vs. the World. These songs are indelibly catchy, and Scott's singing, weird as it is, does the job. Unfortunately, while it's obvious that there's loads of talent here, a lot of the songs are just plain boring. Some of them improve with repeated...

My cd is worn down to the level of wafer thin. A disc that separates the tasteful from the tasteless (or just those who think they have taste).

Obtain, utilize, and be fruitful.

4.0 out of 5 stars A lucious brit-pop altered state..., May 10, 2001
This review is from: Spiders (Audio CD)
This CD is a vacation to a weirder, hipper, darker world... one with tarantulas in the bathtub, peculiar neighbors, and freaky vibes that are given a soundtrack by Space. Similar to They Might Be Giants in this regard, you have to just sit back and take a trip into these guys minds and come back wondering where your luggage went. The lyrics give you a Zen release from reality, and the music is with you all the way, somehow making electronica, lounge, and brit-pop all a seamless part of the day-trip. Like Thomas Dolby or TMBG, Space takes convention and lulls you in with a slightly off-mainstream sound and then turns it all on its head. If you want to get away from it all for awhile, this is a must-have.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fantastic album, August 4, 1999
By A Customer
What a fantastic album! Some tracks are funny, some are witty, some are both! Most tracks are good PROPER tunes not like some of the crud we get these days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Danceable Haunted-House Brit Pop meets Vegas-style Crooning, July 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Spiders (Audio CD)
Certain albums are best when listened to in certain situations -- in the case of "Spiders", I recommend being in a fast car with the bass all the way up. This album is full of haunted-house style organs, catchy choruses, and a lot of demented fun. "Me and You Vs. the World" is a great, 90's sort of Bonnie & Clyde tale, but the hidden track is definitely what makes the album. Also, there's a few wonderfully cheesy lounge tunes... ah! Definitely not for those who are easy to take offense or can't take a joke! These young Brits have provided us with a truly original sound that goes SO far beyond the radio hit "Female of the Species" (which is actually one of the weakest tracks on the album). Check it out -- I guarantee you won't be able to keep from dancing!

4.0 out of 5 stars Where is originality & versatility like this?, December 3, 1998
This review is from: Spiders (Audio CD)
Just when I had begun to give up on the music of the last 20 years (I'm a huge classic rock fan), this album came along. What a relief! New, fresh and catchy. Not to mention funny and intelligent, all wrapped up in some awesome music. My faves: Female of the Species and that unlisted final bonus track. If you'd like a little something original and different, try this out!

This cd is possibly the best paced, funniest cd I have in my collection! There's nothing more to say, if you don't get it, it's your own loss.

4.0 out of 5 stars space is king, June 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Spiders (Audio CD)
well-this cd is interesting for one-catchy toons and lyrics which sat in my head and would eventually be there-FOR A YEAR LATER not all songs are good and some are quite ridiculous -but in all-it does mellow you out and lets you slip away from where you are and lets you enter your own little.........space

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice one, lads. However..., March 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Spiders (Audio CD)
Space's Spiders can be really great- Only if you have every other British 1990's classic (Radiohead, Blur, Suede, Pulp etceteras) & want a tad more of it. This is due to the fact that many of the tracks here were following the precise same blueprint of the aforementioned bands ("Me & You Vs. The World" & "Mister Psycho" could perfectly fit in Blur's The Great Escape, whilst the guitarriff on "Kill Me" sounds suspiciously similar to the one used on the Radiohead classic "My Iron Lung"). Regardless of that these three songs are really great, just as the grotesque "Neighbourhood", the exotic "Female Of The Species", the irresistible "Lovechild Of The Queen", the dancy "Growler" & the eerie, unlisted titletrack. Worth a listen, but don't expect anything pristine.
