4.0 out of 5 stars ~~~~~~For young readers who love fantasy~~~~~~~~, January 3, 2004

The Spiderwick Chronicles, The Feild Guid (volume 1) was a very good introduction to the series I must say! The way Holly and Tony (authors) used their talents was amazing! I found that I myself could relate to the book in a way, because Jared Grace used to be an okay/most of the time obeadinat child, until his father passed away!As the mystery unfolds during their first few weeks in their new house, certain items are lost, certain secrets revealed. Also amoungst all of the elements of supision were written in a way so capitvated that I couldn't put the book down!! I do have one thing to say about the book that I couldn't believe they did this, they gave you a cliff hanger ending, I know it's a series of books but common all books need to have an important or full ending! Other than this The book was terrific!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Eager to hear the rest of the story!, February 12, 2005

We checked out the CD version from our library to listen to in the car. My 5 1/2 yr old twins and I would finish listening to a chapter in the driveway this was so interesting. I'm not a big "fantasy" person, but these stories make fairies and goblins seem so real, like they really could be living in our backyards. (And who am I to say they don't?) I thought my guys would be a little scared of the "visual" image I had at times while listening, but they never seemed bothered. They asked lots of questions about "bad" fairies and goblins, since they know the "good" fairies (eg. Tinkerbell, fairy godmothers) so we did have to stop and explain some of the scarier parts, but overall, this story kept them quiet, entertained and certainly opened up a new door in their imagination. Our library only carries the book version of the next chapters so I am here looking for more CD versions.

4.0 out of 5 stars review by a girl on the spiderwick chronicles book 3, September 17, 2010
This review is from: The Spiderwick Chronicles: Volume II: Book 3: Lucinda's Secret; Book 4: The Ironwood Tree (Audio Cassette)
Jared grace his twin brother Simon grace their older sister Mallory had a some what normal life until they move to a small town in the middle of nowhere. Where their schedule is to meet a phooka and to be knighted by a unicorn. The only problem is that they're the only people that see it except their crazy old aunt Lucinda that friends are sprites. It all because an old book that was found in the attic that tells of trolls but everyone in the forest wants it when they all go in but will they come out. Is an adventures fantasy that everyone will love.
Ps.the book is way better than the movie.
