This review is from: Spiegelau Five O'Clock Cocktail Glasses, Set of 4 (Kitchen)
I've no real business buying more martini glasses; when your collection outnumbers the days of the week you should show some restraint.
Still, during a recent Friday Sale, these glasses popped up at a very low price, so I decided to replace some of my older martini glasses with some new Spiegelau. I wasn't immediately taken with the shape, but with a price so low, I was willing to gamble on it. The glasses arrived very quickly (after a postal holiday no less) and were opened and cleaned last night. Initially I was disappointed with the shape, as it was more like a dish on a stem, by which I mean the joint at the base is very obvious. More than likely machine-made with a joint like that. The more I looked at them however, the more I started to like them and could understand the "relaxed elegance" of the design; should hold a Stoli see-through with olives nicely. Things nose-dived shortly after I started washing them, when the lower quality of the crystal became apparent. A search of Spiegelau did not support this marque or design, so I have to wonder how highly they rate them themselves. Nothing unforgivable considering the sale price, but you get what you pay for and the quality is immediately apparent. For what I paid they're excellent as crystal is nicer to imbibe with. At full price you'd be daft to quaff with these. |
