5.0 out of 5 stars Great
Glasses focus aromas well and provide a nice counter-point to Reidel. Anyone who worries about lead content need not because there is very little free lead in a glass and none is water soliable.

2.0 out of 5 stars do you like molding ridges and wavy glass?
I got a set because the photo looked good. When they arrived, I felt molding ridges in the stem (but mostly they had been ground off of the foot), and saw wavy distortions in the bowls from uneven glass thickness and shape. These aspects bothered me so much I returned the glasses. You must decide where you want to be on the quality vs. price spectrum, but be aware that...

These aren't as nice as some of the specialty wine glasses, but for the money, these are the best port glasses on the market. Lead? Perhaps a concern in a long-term decanter, but not from a 7% non-soluable port glass.

Value and function and design meet together in these beautiful glasses. Nice and thin, the crystal is beautiful and the glasses seem well-blown. A joy to use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!, September 30, 2003

It was so nice to find a set of stemware, that I could afford, to compare to my parents' Reidel glasses (though these were a gift). I agree whole heartedly that for the money they're the best port glasses on the market. I look forward to expanding my Spiegelau collection :)

We have been using Riedel crystal wine glasses (and still do on occasion with the handful that we have left), but I finally decided to buy Spiegelau glasses for our everyday drinking glasses. Because we drink wine and entertain regularly, our collection of Riedel glasses has been diminishing --- although the crystal Riedel's are beautiful glasses (and still used for the right occasions), they are extremely fragile and I have personally destroyed several while simply hand washing them. At any rate, after years of attrition via visiting friends and family, we needed to stock up on new glasses. Because I hate to hand wash dishes, I began to look into the dishwasher-safe glasses from Riedel and Spiegelau for the new replacements. I was going to just buy the dishwasher-safe Riedel glasses (name recognition of course), but I couldn't get over how much better the Spiegelaus were priced. Moreover, all of my favorite restaurants use Spiegelau (and come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen Riedels at a restaurant). Therefore, I took the leap and stocked up on the Chardonnay, Cabernet, Riesling, Port and Champagne glasses. I'm really glad that I did --- all of them are terrific! Although not as elegant as the fine crystal versions, these are excellent for everyday use and large dinner parties. I've already bounced one off of a granite countertop and it survived the collision without incident. I've also washed them all in the dishwasher several times and they've come out great. I am very, very happy with this purchase. I'm sure that the comparable dishwasher-safe Riedel glasses are just as nice (possibly nicer?), but you can't beat Spiegelau's price!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fine Glasses, February 21, 2006
This review is from: Spiegelau Vino Grande Port/Aperitif Glasses, Set of 6 (Kitchen)
These glasses are excellent for serving port. They are delicate, however and require extreme caution when handwashing them. My set of 6 is now a set of 5. However, they are extremely nice and well priced and I highly recommend this product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Glasses, August 9, 2005
This review is from: Spiegelau Vino Grande Port/Aperitif Glasses, Set of 6 (Kitchen)
These are wonderful port glasses that I have already used several times. They are very delicate yet engineered to be really tough. I'll have them for a long time. Also, the price on Amazon was cheaper than I found in any store.

5.0 out of 5 stars My best deal on amazon, March 31, 2008
This review is from: Spiegelau Vino Grande Port/Aperitif Glasses, Set of 6 (Kitchen)
I had ordered a set of Spiegelau Vino Grande martini glasses back in 2003 from amazon and these came for free due to the promotion. Not only had they arrived in perfect condition, I was so amazed and pleased to witness how something free could be so well-built and aesthetically pleasing. These non-lead crystal German glasses are not only great for Port wine, but also handles Chardonnay, Riesling, blush and etc.

You should be aware of the fact that these are not the over the top fine-crystal Spiegelau glasses; however, they are excellent for everyday use and parties since they are not very thin and hence fragile. They are well blown, defect-free, chic enough for the purpose. Moreover, they have been both hand and machine washed over the past years and the glass has perfectly survived all of it. I wish I could get free stuff like this more often.

As one of the reviewers said, these glasses have molding ridges that are very obvious. I would be frustrated and upset as well, if I had to pay $54 for this set.

The port glasses are lovely. They are delicate enough to make a beautiful sound and to look absolutely elegant, and they are sturdy enough to survive our house.

These aspects bothered me so much I returned the glasses. You must decide where you want to be on the quality vs. price spectrum, but be aware that these are much worse quality than, for instance, the Hungarian blown glasses from Williams-Sonoma.
