4.0 out of 5 stars Elegant writing, rich imaginings
A slim volume offering a fascinating glimpse of Antonin Dvorak's time spent in an Iowa village populated primarily by Czechs. The composer and his family spent the summer of 1893 in Spillville. Hampl's elegant writing and rich imaginings render this book a must-read for any Iowan or any fan of Dvorak's music. The book includes a series of engravings.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dvorak fans will love this Iowa tale
"Spillville" tells about Anton Dvorak's stay in this small Iowa town. The author has captured the essence of life in rural Iowa. As for the engravings that illustrate the text, I can't say anything nice about those. But the story is interesting, especially for someone interested in Iowa or Dvorak.
