5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to start the day
This book is full of stories that I can completely relate to.
I have enjoyed each story. It is hard to read just one.
The stories make you laugh out loud, they encourage and inspire.
The scripture at the end of each story is perfect allowing me to meditate on it throughout the day.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just like the cover-no nutritional value and for children
This devoational, at best, is for those who are looking for a sugary, non-nutritional "snack" of God's Word. This book contains dozens of devotionals, each devotional is about 3 pages long. The author dedicates about 2 pages to a cute and funny story, and I will give her credit that the stories are very humorus and as a mother, you will absolutely relate to what she is...

This book is a perfect gift for any Mother or even Grandmother. Real life everyday short stories are followed by a bible verse. It is a way of bringing together a Moms typical day and living in God's word. I found it difficult to read just one story a day and wanted to just keep reading!

Amazingly funny, nostalgic, and yet biblical! The humor and relevant daily devotions have helped me to start my day with a grin. Easy to read, and like a good mocha latte, I want more than just one per day!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Little Moments of time, December 16, 2009
This review is from: Spilt Milk: Devotions for Moms (Paperback)
Whenever I have done a devotional it has always been hit and miss with me. Either they were so intense that it was like doing a bible study or so light that I could have received as much inspiration if I had read the comics.

Finding the right balance between humor, insight, inspiration and God's words is not as easy as it may appear.

Linda Vujnov did a fabulous job with Spilt Milk. As a mom of twin girls I can relate to many of her chapters and titles. Such as "My Last Drink", "Wit's End" and "Stupid Words". She shares her highs and lows of being a mom with small children in a way that any mom can relate.

Within each of her daily devotions is the "moment" when God touches her heart to see life His way...when the ah-ha minute strikes. At the end she concludes it with a verse to ponder for the day.

Spilt Milk is the perfect devotional to carry in your purse or backpack for those times when you have a few minutes to dwell in God's word....as a mom those moments need to be found because they don't just fall in your lap.

Linda Vujnov realizes that moms are busy, harried and rushed most of the days...but she always reminds us that we have a heavenly Father that will helps to slow down, calm down and relax...if we only let Him be in charge.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just like the cover-no nutritional value and for children, January 15, 2010
This review is from: Spilt Milk: Devotions for Moms (Paperback)
This devoational, at best, is for those who are looking for a sugary, non-nutritional "snack" of God's Word. This book contains dozens of devotionals, each devotional is about 3 pages long. The author dedicates about 2 pages to a cute and funny story, and I will give her credit that the stories are very humorus and as a mother, you will absolutely relate to what she is saying and see the humor in each one. The remaining one or one and a half pages of each devotional are devoted to thinking about God, being a Christian etc. The problem is, she spends about half a page setting it up (for example recapping what should be a familiar Bible story to any Christian) and at best a paragraph is dedicated to actual devotional thoughts-like remembering God's love for us, doing what is good, or obeying certain commands. Each devotional ends with a single Bible verse in italics.

Another issue with the actual lack of devotional thoughts is how shallow each thought is. Here are some actual examples from the book:

-we each have different talents to be used differently-such as being musical, creative, or oganized. We should use those talents to the best of our ability.

-We need to use Scripture to help us act in "Christian" ways such as not losing patience when in a dr's waiting room. (By the way, on that one she actually says that we will mess up, of course, but if we just keep trying hard enough, and "using God's Word" eventually we can "do a better job". Perhaps the author forgot the entire message of Christianity, which is that we cannot do it on our own, which is why Christ died for us. We can't just "read God's Word" and do better, we need to be changed by Christ.)

-We have a Father in Heaven that will help us in hard times if we just put Him first in our lives.

The past 3 examples are actual thoughts she has in her book, and i don't know about you, but these are things that I have heard my entire Christian life, things I learned before I was even saved, things even non-Christians would agree with. Perhaps you are at a place in your life where you haven't been "fed" from the Word of God in so long you will settle for soggy Fruit Loops, but I am looking for something a bit more sustaining. I realized the point of this devotional is that as a mother you only have about 3 minutes to yourself, at best, but still, the author could have choosen to have written this for an intelligent woman of God, looking to actually be filled and sustained, instead of a child just wanting a sugar rush that would last for about 30 minutes. It is an incredibly disappointing devotional that is not worth your time or money.
