One of those albums that no one's ever heard about, 24 Gone's "The Spin" is a great album of ethereal rock.

In the realm of The Chameleons and Kitchens of Distinction, 24G has a great sweeping sound filled with melody and swirly, dreamy guitar and percussion.

Vocals are sweet but bold as well as the lyrics.

24G put out this ONE and ONLY album produced by the legendary Dave Ogilvie (Skinny Puppy) that was a main player in the Oceana/Onslot label that this is on.

Buy it. You won't regret it.

Being from Detroit and listening to 89x in the early 90s, this albums wonderfull songs were played and soon became a loved favorite to the dream popers and shoegazers of the time. But we were also jipped in a way because the album was out of print. What a record collectors dream come true when I see it for 9.00 on amazon!! I have in past years seen this album for up to 100.00 on ebay!! listen and enjoy- a great example of early 90s dream pop.

Back in '97, long after the release of "The Spin" and the demise of 24 Gone I heard "Girl Of Colours" on a local radio station (89X). This had me hooked and going on a wild goosechase to find a copy. 2003 saw the expanded new release of "The Spin"; it opens with a remix of "Trust" which is a very lush interpretation of the original. The addition of the track "Wire Me" was a wise decision, as it showcases a slow groove that explodes into a double timed ending. The improvisational nature of the vocals on "Blue Skies/Noise" creates a blurry narcotic effect while the backing instrumentation grinds into the stratosphere. You can hear echoes of 24 Gone in today's "emo" scene in bands like Thursday. Another shining sapphire is "Sea And The Ocean", a dazzling track led in by ocean sounds, and kicked in with a growl by McCarrick and carried out by the band's vamped ending.
Check this disc out and you won't be disappointed, the songs are solid compositions with ethereal yet pained tones. I just hope the rumors about a possible reunion tour are true...until then my fingers are crossed.
