One of those albums that no one's ever heard about, 24 Gone's "The Spin" is a great album of ethereal rock.
In the realm of The Chameleons and Kitchens of Distinction, 24G has a great sweeping sound filled with melody and swirly, dreamy guitar and percussion. Vocals are sweet but bold as well as the lyrics. 24G put out this ONE and ONLY album produced by the legendary Dave Ogilvie (Skinny Puppy) that was a main player in the Oceana/Onslot label that this is on. Buy it. You won't regret it.

Being from Detroit and listening to 89x in the early 90s, this albums wonderfull songs were played and soon became a loved favorite to the dream popers and shoegazers of the time. But we were also jipped in a way because the album was out of print. What a record collectors dream come true when I see it for 9.00 on amazon!! I have in past years seen this album for up to 100.00 on ebay!! listen and enjoy- a great example of early 90s dream pop.

Back in '97, long after the release of "The Spin" and the demise of 24 Gone I heard "Girl Of Colours" on a local radio station (89X). This had me hooked and going on a wild goosechase to find a copy. 2003 saw the expanded new release of "The Spin"; it opens with a remix of "Trust" which is a very lush interpretation of the original. The addition of the track "Wire Me" was a wise decision, as it showcases a slow groove that explodes into a double timed ending. The improvisational nature of the vocals on "Blue Skies/Noise" creates a blurry narcotic effect while the backing instrumentation grinds into the stratosphere. You can hear echoes of 24 Gone in today's "emo" scene in bands like Thursday. Another shining sapphire is "Sea And The Ocean", a dazzling track led in by ocean sounds, and kicked in with a growl by McCarrick and carried out by the band's vamped ending.Check this disc out and you won't be disappointed, the songs are solid compositions with ethereal yet pained tones. I just hope the rumors about a possible reunion tour are true...until then my fingers are crossed.

Give this album a "spin" if you will... :),

I first came across this band when 89X (a local radio station here in the Detroit/Windsor area) played their signature song "Girl Of Colours". Well, I finally got the expanded version of The Spin, and "Girl Of Colours" is one of twelve excellent songs on this album! Moody, uplifting, ethereal, gloomy, atmospheric all come to my mind when listening to this album. Dream-pop with loud, buzzy guitars is how I would describe the music. For some reason, the band reminds me of another band called The Catherine Wheel (also a good band). It's a shame that the band's no longer together (as far as I know). And this was their only album! Oh well. Kudos to 89X for giving them exposure here in Detroit!

Great CD! The sad thing? This band is no longer around. It took me a while to find out about 24 Gone. Living in the metro Detroit area we are lucky to have Canadian radio stations and they play Twenty Four Gone. I bought this for the song Trust which in my mind is the their best song. Airy & haunting easily one of the best songs of the 90's. I was plesantly pleased to hear Girl of Color which was played on the radio here and had no idea it was Twenty Four Gone. They have a wonderful sound and if you are into alternative 80's you will like this gem from the early 90's. Sadly, probably the most under rated (with the exception of Horsedrawn Wishes by Rollerskate Skinny) and overlooked album of the 90's.

Why did they drop a song?,

Hello,
Like everyone else here, I heard these guys on 89X back in the day when you would hear new stuff because the dj's actually had a personality and would play things that they liked or discovered along the way, I know it's shocking, but it's true. I was glad to hear that this was re-released and bought it right away. Overall I still enjoy this music, but I have a couple problems with this disc. My first issue is why change the order of the track list? Any why open with a new remix? I think it would have been better to put all of the extra stuff at the end. So I decided to fix that issue I would burn a copy in the original order....oops, wrong again, a song is missing!?! Are you kidding, where is "In Her Heart"? It was the second track on the original, are they nuts? It's not like they were trying to keep this under 80 minutes and had to get rid of stuff. Finally, I found a song by them on Youtube called (and I'm sure this title is not right) "And Winters Days" (look it up), why didn't they add this? The two unreleased songs are excellent, this song would have fit right in. Overall I would say this is a mixed up effort, I'm still glad to have it, but I can scratch my head till I'm an inch in, it will never make sense to me, what happened to this group way back when, or the decisions that were made surrounding this effort.

Detroit's Favorite Canadian Band,

Apparently these guys only caught on in Detroit/Windsor. Like the other reviewers have pointed out---89x played the heck out of this in the early 90's and in some ways it helped define the early "modern rock" radio format. At any rate it's almost a lost masterpiece. Not everything here is as good as "Trust" or "Girl of Colors" but "Islands" comes close. Anyhow it's back in print as it should be.
