"So enjoy your state of mind", January 28, 2012
This review is from: Spin Around the Moon (Audio CD)
This is the 2nd album of DSN. It features songs they'd been performing in clubs for years. The audience would ask when the 2nd album was ready and "Squid" patiently replied "When it's ready." And it was definitely worth the wait! Once again, the trio of Christian "Dirt" Wagener (guitar and lead vocals), Curt "Squid" Sissom (bass) and Wayne "Nasty" Wagener (drums, vocals and lead vocal on "Shimmer") are back. "Timbale" starts out the CD, followed by "El Latino." The introspective "Other Side Of The World" is a standout track. Whether you've said goodbye to a close friend or closed a door on a relationship, you'll be able to relate to the lyrics. "Spin Around The Moon" has a laid back bluesy feel to it. "Carry Me" dates back to their "Black Album" sessions, one of the 1st recording sessions known. "The Well" has a jazz feel to it and speaks of a place you can go to relax after a hard day's work. "Shimmer" is sung by Wayne- "There was no thought control... that I could see." "The Whistler" is a short but sweet acoustic piece, reminiscent of "The Trinity Kid" theme. "Delta" is even shorter and Christian sang like Dusty Hill on "La Grange." "Save Me" is one of the most chilling songs on this CD. It speaks of an addiction and the music is bluesy and lamenting (on a personal note, I remember putting my jacket back on after this song when played live). "Backhand" gets the momentum running again. "Devils Floor" concludes the CD and I remember it was the opening track they played when I saw them for the 1st time. All in all, worth seeking out if you can or if you've never heard DSN and are curious (along with their self-titled debut). Thanks, DSN, for the memories and the great job you did on the CD!
