Even Better than Royally Jacked!,
This review is from: Spin Control (Romantic Comedies) (Mass Market Paperback)
Niki Burnham's sequel to Royally Jacked is even better than the first. Spin Control takes place right where Royally Jacked leaves off with Valerie finally getting her Prince. But her life isn't the fairy tale she thought it would be when the newspapers start a horrible rumor about her. Her life begins to spin out of control. Then Georg suggests they "cool off", and a confused Val heads home to spend Winter Break with her mom and unfortunately her mom's girlfriend, Gabrielle. Back home she has to face her friends who still don't know that her mom has come out of the closet and are already mad at her for not telling them about her relationship with Prince Georg. But things start to pick up when her old crush David pops back into the picture.
Spin Control answers all the unanswered questions Royally Jacked left. Burnham delves into Val's relationship with her mother and the secrets she had kept from her friends. And we find out whom her heart truly belongs to. It's a lighthearted comedy that will leave you grinning from ear to ear. If you haven't read either book, you should order them both today. You won't be disappointed.

Great,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Spin Control (Romantic Comedies) (Mass Market Paperback)
My friends and I all read and loved Royally Jacked (the prequel about a girl who falls in love with a prince). When we finished, we were like, "Thats it! Where the heck is the rest?!" So you an imagine how excited we were when we found out about Spin Control. It picks off right where Royally Jacked leaves off.
This book is GREAT. Though I like Royally Jacked better, this comes pretty close to a tie. It touches bases with some very important issues. The question of "can you make a true 'connection' with two different people comes up. The book also brings in the whole "My mom is a lesbian" issue without going into any 'physical' details. Which makes it suitable for even young readers. I really enjoyed it.

Niki Burnham is now one of my favorite authors. She captured me with "Royally Jacked" and stole my heart with "Spin Control".
These books are just completely awesome! If you are into teen comedic romances, than you should totally be reading these books. "Spin Control" picks up right where "Royally Jacked" left off. In this one the main character Valerie has to go back to the States, after living in a German palace for a month, because of a little media problem shes having with her new bf. But home doesnt get any better. There are several issues she has to face with her friends and her mom, who just came out the closet. Going home also makes her have to decided who she wants to be with: David, the guy shes been crushing on forever who is FINALLY starting to notice her or Georg, her prince who really gets her and doesnt judge about the whole gay mom thing. Though its probably true that a prince doesnt fall in love with an ordinary girl, all the time, its concept and meaning are completely heart felt and relatible. You'll love every part of it!

Fabulous Sequel to 'Royally Jacked',
By
This review is from: Spin Control (Romantic Comedies) (Mass Market Paperback)
Valerie Winslow seriously had her doubts about how life in the small country of Schwerinborg would treat her, but once she began dating Prince Georg, those doubts dissolved, leaving her blissfully happy. After all, Georg is a Prince - just like in all those fairytales - but he's also Val's first true boyfriend. Unfortunately, just when everything is going absolutely perfect, it all falls apart. Tabloids throughout the world begin running pictures of the two teens, depicting their relationship, and accusing the both of them of being promiscuous, doing drugs, drinking, and smoking, which is all totally untrue. The most Val and Georg have done is make-out a few times. Val feels that the two of them will be able to make it through this, but Georg has his doubts, and informs Valerie that they should "cool off for a while." And that is how Valerie ends up at her mom's apartment in Virginia. Valerie couldn't be more bummed, until she finds out that her old crush, David Anderson, wants to go out with her. Valerie jumps at the chance. After all, David may not be a Prince, but he may be the perfect distraction...
Niki Burnham has done it again, and created a sequel in SPIN CONTROL that definitely challenges it's predecessor ROYALLY JACKED. As always, Valerie's hilarious freak-out persona, and worry wart tendencies make her a lovable character, who steals the show. While her friends and their many wacky e-mails will have the reader laughing out loud throughout the entire book. Filled with many fantastic "romantic" situations, SPIN CONTROL is sure to please readers. I only hope that Niki Burnham decides to write yet another book about Val's adventures in romance. Almost more enjoyable than Royally Jacked,

SPIN CONTROL, the sequel to the book Royally Jacked, is awesome. I picked it up expecting it to be your typical, not-as-good-as-the-original sequel, but I enjoyed it just as much as Royally Jacked.
SPIN CONTROL takes place in Vienna, Virginia this time, and it focuses more on the relationship that Val has with her mom and how she deals with her mom's new girlfriend. When Val's friends find out the real reason her parents got divorced, she's surprised to see that they're all supportive of her mom's decision, and they promise not to tell anyone else until Valerie is ready. Valerie isn't really sure what's going on between her and Georg, but when her friend Christie tells her that she has an opportunity to go out with her longtime crush, David, Val seizes the opportunity. But when the date goes better than expected, Val has to make one of the toughest decisions yet: David or Georg? SPIN CONTROL is hilarious, cute, and refreshing. Although you know how it will end, it's still a great read. Overall grade - B+

Picked up this book on a lark - what an amazing stroke of luck. This book is part of a series and it was so much fun! I highly recommend Nikki Burnham, this series in particular, the story is adorable and Burnham doesn't dumb down the story but really writes in a way that keeps you believing and wanting more. Often in these short mass market paperbacks the stories are thin and so cheesy, NOT the case here!
If you are like me and love all things Royal and also all things romance, this is the story for you!

Simon Pulse Romantic Comedies are always a fun read. These books are not necessarily the best written novels but the stories are always fun and you know you will get a happy ending. I think some adult romances could take a note from these books b/c they are characterized well which is much of the battle in writing any novel since you want your characters, for the most part, to be endearing and relatable.

When we last left Valerie, she had moved to Schwerinborg with her father after her mother dropped the news that she was gay. After arriving, Valerie set her eyes on Georg, the royal family's very cute son. And in the end Valerie got the guy and is beginning to get used to her new life in Schwerinborg.
Valerie Winslow is back with a whole new set of problems. Turns out dating a future prince isn't the easiest thing in the world to do. What with all the cameras and reporters tracking your every move, and the tabloids hungry for some juicy inside news, it sure doesn't help when you are caught in the bathroom with the prince -- and when a pack of cigarettes falls out from behind the toilet. But when a newspaper takes the story a little too far, the entire royal family and their staff that handles public relations are trying to make things right. With all the pressure, though, Georg decides that he and Valerie need to "cool off" for awhile, but what exactly does "cool off" mean? Valerie's father thinks this is the perfect time for a visit with her mother, while things settle down in Schwerinborg. Going back home shouldn't be so bad, what with getting to hang out with her friends and her mother. But it turns out that alerie's "relationship" with Georg made headlines in Virginia, and now her friends all know what Valerie has been keeping from them. To make matters worse, Valerie still hasn't told them about her mother and her girlfriend. Going back to Virginia does have its advantages when Valerie decides to go on a date with her longtime crush, David Anderson, who apparently has had his eye on her since she left. Will going out with David help Valerie decide if he is the right one for her? Or will it just make her miss Georg even more? SPIN CONTROL is the perfect follow up to the last novel, Royally Jacked. The author makes Valerie stronger than ever, what with all the issues she has to deal with. Not only that, but SPIN CONTROL delves deeper into the issue of having a parent or any family member that is gay and helps us see it in a whole new light. This is another great read from Niki Burnham, who never seems to disappoint. Reviewed by: Randstostipher "tallnlankyrn" Ngueyn
