5.0 out of 5 stars add a weight and it works great
I had read the reviews for the Rocket Rod - people saying that the hook didn't come out like it should... so I added a weight on my line. It certainly doesn't launch very far, but that's not such a big deal if you're fishing from a good dock or a boat. I was laughed at by the seasoned fisherman as I walked by with my kid's Bow Rod, but they changed their tone when I...

2.0 out of 5 stars FOGO Generation II
The set up looks pretty good, but it does not reel up all the way into the shaft by itself, it has to be guided in through the two eyes. Not a good setup for a little one. I bought it for my grand daughter who is 3... maybe she is too young for it? However, it does shoot pretty good.

It certainly doesn't launch very far, but that's not such a big deal if you're fishing from a good dock or a boat. I was laughed at by the seasoned fisherman as I walked by with my kid's Bow Rod, but they changed their tone when I was pulling in croakers longer than the width of my ice chest. I couldn't believe it caught them either, but I posted a pic of one of them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Design and Does Not Work as Advertised, May 31, 2011
This review is from: Fogo Fishing Bow Rod (Sports)
My son got this product for Christmas and he thought it was great from the commercials blasted before the holiday season. So we just tried this out this past memorial day weekend (the ice just went out here in Minnesota) and this product is absolutely worthless. It does not cast 30 feet and the bobber that is supposed to open up and drop the line down does not open and the line, or sinker, or hook, or bait with catch somewhere on the opening of the bobber and the bait and hook will not drop down. How many fish are going to bite on a baited hook that is inches from the water surface and some crazy bobber - none!

I emailed and called SpinMaster and they will not stand behind their product. They say they only have a 30 day warranty from date of purchase and even though we just open the package they won't do a thing. Further they have discontinued this product - most likely because it does not work.

Stay away from this product and SpinMaster. They are a company that loves to take your money but won't stand behinds its products when they fail to meet the advertised claims.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! But we only paid $6...., October 9, 2011

Okay, at this price, I understand many of the reviews. We found this at the most common used places (GW). And frankly, with a little patience, it works actually quite well. I would ignore the 'bobber' feature, we just use a weight, let it sink to where we want it and then cinch it up.

Yes, you definitely need a weight. You need, also, to know how to fish. Using worms, my son has caught many, many small fish off our dock in Idaho. And he's 5.

Frankly, I'm pretty impressed with it and I'm an engineer. Except there's basically way too much line. For the type of fishing it's going to work for, you need, maybe 50'. I think there's more like 50 yards in that reel. A pain when it comes unraveled.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money, April 7, 2011

I bought this for my Grandson. It is cheaply made, breaks easy, is difficult for children to use and does not work well. Don't waste your money. Grandson wanted it really bad, he was very excited about it when I gave it to him now he is disappointed - he calls it "junk".

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as easy as it looks., June 15, 2010

Quick enough service. Interesting that one time I log into Amazon it was almost $50 and the next time it was less than $30. So I would keep checking.
It's not as easy to use as it states, not recommended for younger children.
