We just bought the McFlurry machine for my 8 year old daughter for her birthday. It is fairly easy for an adult to put together, but a little confusing for a kid. That's not a problem however, as adults are used to putting toys together for a child. First of all, you have to be careful and not fill up the canister too much with the ice and salt, or you will get salt in your ice cream, which believe me, doesn't taste very good. Also, be prepared to put a towel under the machine or you will have water every where. By the way, you will need 3/4 cup of table salt each time you use the machine, so make sure you buy salt before hand. After you turn the handle for like 6-8 minutes, then your ice cream is done. Keep in mind the metal container that the ice cream is made in is about half the size or less than the cup you are supposed to eat it out of. So you wind up with your cup about 1/4 full. A few bites maybe. To fill the cup up and peaked over the brim like they show on the front of the box you would need about 5 packets of McFlurry mix and mix it up 5 times. Which of course, it only comes with 2 packets of the mix, and besides, by the time you got done making ice cream 5 times for 6-8 minutes each time, what you had already made would be melted. Most kids would get tired doing this 5 times in a row anyway. They would have to set what they had already made into the freezer and total time would be about an hour to fill that darn cup all the way up. So in other words, you follow all the directions, you will get a 1/4 ice cream in the cup that is provided. Maybe 3 or 4 bites at best. We also bought the refills at $5.00 each. They come with 2 packets and the 2 packets sprinkles. So we wasted $35.00 on the machine and refills. Oh, and clean up is not easy and simple. You have to take the many pieces back apart and wash every thing so that you don't wind up with sour milk in the cracks. A kid is not going to be able to get it clean enough to be sanitary. So all in all, to get a few bites of ice cream, your going to spend alot of money, have a mess to clean up and a frustrated child who wants the cup filled all the way up like the picture on the front of the box. Believe me, don't waste your money on this, you will have a very disappointed kid on your hands.

Basically this toy is the same as buying a child's ice cream maker type toy only it is in the shape and comes out like a McFlurry. Other than the mix, the only things you need are half and half (1 cup per mix package), ice and table salt. The toys is not fun because my 6 or 8 year old could not turn the crank to mix it without help. There is a little arm that goes down into the ice/salt mixture and churns that and it is hard to turn it particularly at first. The size cup that is provided is about the size of a small or medium drink from McD's and one mix package filled this cup up about 1/3 of the way. It was also difficult for my 6/8 year olds to use the plunger to dispense the McFlurry. I suppose it could have a tiny bit of educational value if the parent explained the reason for the ice salt/mixture but other than that I don't really see any. The product itself is durable. It doesn't seem like anything would break and nothing did when we used it. My kids were disappointed and said that they would have had just as much fun with less aggravation had we just bought a 1/2 gallon of ice cream.

I bought this for my 8 year old and what a waste of time and money. First it doesn't tell you on the box that you need salt and cream, so we opened it up only to put it back until I went to the supermarket and bought cream and salt. It was hard to put together and after it was ready to use, the mcflurry tasted aweful. It tasted like vanilla with salt in it. This product stinks and I would never recommend it to anyone.

My 8 year old son was able to put it together in a snap by following the pictures. I only helped in the measuringof Half and Half and Salt. He did the rest. He did seem to turn crank handle for a long time and got a little tired but after adding more salt to the ice, which makes ice colder, the McFlurry mix and cream started hardening. I helped push mixture out and we each had a small McFlurry from one packet. Clean up was a breeze as everything came apart easily and we could get our hands in with a sponge. We used the Sprinkles but I see us using everything in the cabinets soon. I hope the refills are available soon.

This is the grossest blob of sugary water ever to touch my lips! How could you make ice cream taste so rotten? Bat barf I say!! Even if it was good, it is much too great of a hassle! It took my Dad over 2 hours to put together, and what did we get?! A tablespoon of milky water with sprinkles on top! I got this hunk of junk 2 years ago, Christmas. It has gathered dust on my shelf ever since!

My daughter received this for her 9th bday. She was excited and immediately wanted to give it a try. Well, I thought the directions on how to assemble were awful. It was not easy to put together at all. I'm a college grad and my brother in law is a very skilled carpenter and it tooks us a bit of figuring out. This is essentially a hand crank, plastic, ice cream maker which requires A LOT of cranking ( my daughter and niece both gave up)to end up with very little whatever a mcflurry actually is. Better off buying a real ice cream maker on sale.

I got this toy for Christmas, and it's very nice. My dad helped me assemble it and wash it the first time, but I caught on pretty fast. The directions are pretty confusing, but if you have an adult with you, you should be fine. The crank is NOT hard to turn at all!!! DON'T BELIEVE THOSE PEOPLE WHO SAY IT IS!!! I'm nine, and I cranked it for 6 mins. all by my self. It isn't hard, not at all. The ice cream comes out looking like ice cream. In the instructions I think it says to crank it 4-6 mins. You are better off cranking it for 6, because then it will be more ice cream-like Like I said a couple of reviews before, you might want to check with your kids and tell them that it doesn't make that much, and ask them if it is really worth it. The end result is kind of dissapointing, as it's only an inch in the cup. Your children might be upset how little it gives. So, if you want a bigger amount, you might as well go down to McDonald's and buy a Mcflurry, but I don't reccomend that. I HIGHLY reccomend this toy.

My 7 year old just got this for her birthday. So we decided to use it tonight. Following the directions closely it seemed very simple in the beginning. Soon enough, it was time to begin turning the crank. As I did, my daughter exclaimed that it was too hard to turn and the stuff was running out on the table. Sure enough, the cream was dripping out the bottom. I checked to make sure the bottom was all of the way closed, and indeed, it was. I thought maybe it was just a little overspill and continued. The more I turned the top, the more that ran out the bottom. I explained to my daughter that maybe we had done something incorrectly and would start over. That is what we did. We washed it and started over.(Which is a long process) I had company at the house at this point who assembled it along with me and we proceeded to start from scratch. Once again, I had cream dripping out of the bottom.I could see my daughter was quite upset. So we took our time and re-read the directions, it was not an error on our part. We added a little more cream and it, like before, dripped out the bottom. We turned on anyway. After 10 minutes of turning, it was still liquid cream.I have never been so displeased with a toy before. Not only that, I tried to send a letter to the company thinking maybe mine was a defect, but the email address that they give sends a message back that "The recipient was unavailable to take delivery of this message" Do not waste your time or money on this product.

My daughter wanted this flurry maker sooo bad, so we finally gave in & got it for her for Christmas last year. What a mistake that was!! She was thrilled & is thrilled everytime we make flurries (which isn't very often). It's a pain to put together & take apart, she can't turn it by herself, which at 4 she wants to do, & it doesn't tast anything like the flurry you get at McDonalds. I would recommend going to McDonalds & buying a flurry rather than wasting money on this!!!

Worst toy ever!!! We bought this for my son for Christmas. It was difficult to put together at first. The written directions are worthless but, the picture helped. My son had a hard time putting it together with out our help. The mix was messy & hard for him to crank. Plus the re-fills are expensive. Cleaning all the little parts each time was a pain for me. This was definatly a big dissapointment on Christmas morning for him. The money we spent on this product would have been better spent on anything else. We already threw it away. Save your money- use your blender to make milkshakes, and let your kids put on thier own sprinkles- it's easier to clean, and the kids actually get instant gratification that way.
