5.0 out of 5 stars MY CHILDREN'S FAVORITE TOY - DELICIOUS TOO!!!
What a GREAT TOY! Who doesn't love Smores? Now the kids can make them all by themselves SAFELY and NEATLY. The Hershey's Smores Maker looks like a campfire but has a bulb inside that safely heats the marshmallow to just the right temperature and gooiness to satify kids and adults. 3.0 out of 5 stars It's OK..
Just purchased because I thought it would be fun to make smores with my daughter on cold winter nights. It takes longer than I thought it would to get the marshmallows really heated through. I guess I should have realized it would be that way when I was adding the heating element: a 60 watt candelabra light bulb. My daughter liked it but her attention did wander while...

The Hershey's Smores Maker looks like a campfire but has a bulb inside that safely heats the marshmallow to just the right temperature and gooiness to satify kids and adults. Best of all, it's a wonderful shared activity as multiple kids can "cook" together at the same time. It's all the fun and yumminess of campfire Smores right in your own backyard or child's room. I'm going now to have S'more!

Unlike one reviewer, I can appreciate that the magic of this toy is sharing the experience with children. My niece loves putting her marshmallow on a stick and cooking it. And while we wait for it to cook, we have time to talk and just spend time together. Nuking s'mores in a microwave just doesn't give you that same experience.

I have lots of brains, thank you, and love this toy. It's sharing the experience and the time with our kids that counts, not how long it takes to cook.

I'm a college student, and my friend and I saw this toy and could not resist getting it. We set it up, and immediately started giggling. It is a little kids toy, through and through. We were dissapointed that you had to buy the bulb separate, and we couldn't find the right wattage one.. but we found a 40 watt, 120 volt battery in the right size and threw it in anyway.

It was fun. We enjoyed ourselves. We'd just set a marshmellow to roasting, watch our movie.. give it a spin every minute or so, let the skin get crispy (but not brown) and the insides get a little melty (we had no problem getting the marshmellows to go melty- and we had a lower watt bulb! Granted, it only got the half of the marshmellow that was facing the bulb melty and required a quick flip.. but still. It melted.) and then pop it off and make a smore, but be sure you set your next marshmellow going before you ate the first!

Its not a real campfire. You don't get any coloration, and you don't get burning. You get safety, and you get the novelty factor. We loved it, and we're in college! I don't know why a little kid wouldn't find that fun when a real campfire wasn't available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why it doesn't get hot enough..., April 25, 2005

I own this toy as well - ladies & gents - don't forget that this is a children's toy - the bulb does not get hot enough to brown the marshmallow for 2 reasons

1. It is a children's toy and designed with safety in mind - therefore if the marshmallow could get that hot - it could burn the child's tongue & fingers while using it - we've all been burned by the camp fire before

2. The unit itself would get too hot as well - again this is designed for a child.

Great toy! My daughter loves it!!!

My daughter got this for her birthday on Feb 9th and it was FUN!!! The light bulb is easily found at WalMart. It just has to be a short, round, candelabra bulb NOT the long pointy tip ones. It will heat the marshmallow perfectly if you buy a 60 watt bulb and nothing less. The smores were delicious!!!!! The kids would have stayed up all night making smores if I had let them!! And to tell you the truth so would I, This was fun!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars YOU NEED A "ROUND" CANDELABRA (tiny base) 60 watt BULB, December 19, 2004

I bought this item a few weeks ago as a gift which was just given and opened yesterday. It was a big hit. Along with it I also had a box with the graham crakers, marsmallows, candy bars and light bulbs so that it could be used immediately if desired. The recipient was a 7 yr old and she was thrilled with it along with her 4 yr old little brother. The bulbs I got were not round, they were the pointy kind but they said 60watt and candelabra so I thought it was the right one. Thankfully I only live across the street and had the round candelabra bulbs for other light fixtures around the house. It would help if the box showed the picture to avoid the confusion since it says a 60 watt candelabra bulb. In any case, I was overjoyed with the results and I really am contemplating getting the machine for my 4 yr old. She really liked making her smore's last night, too!!! Apparently the little girl used it again this morning after eating all her breakfast. The best part is that all the necessities are cheap unlike the easy-bake oven refills ;-)
january,11,2005-- I did end up getting this item for my child. It is a real treat for her.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for kids, January 9, 2005

My seven 1/2 year old daughter recieved this for Christmas and loved to make smores for everyone. The marshmallows don't get brown and gooey so they don't make a mess but they do get soft enough to make a tasty smore. The thing we hated most about this toy was finding a bulb for it. It would be nice if toys like this came with light bulbs.

My daughter was very excited to get this toy after asking for it for 6 months from seeing it in TV ads. She was disappointed with the results, and so were the adults:

(1) Bulb adds another $3 to the cost of the toy. It was not easy to find.

(2) Marshmallows don't roast. They just soften. So, chocolate never melts, since the marshmallow is not really hot. I agree that this makes it safer, but the results are disappointing if you are expecting a campfire-type result, which she was after viewing the TV ads. Even the box says "roast marshmallow" - it's only the instructions inside that say "soften marshmallow."

(3) It takes a long time to go from start to finish - 6 minutes to heat up the unit, 5 to 6 minutes to soften the marshmallows, two at a time. In our case, it was five of us waiting for S'mores. That was 25 minutes for all of us to get one. Good thing we had a pre-set limit of one each.

We used Ghirardelli chocolate squares - about the same price as Hershey's but with higher cocoa content and without the hydrogenated oils.

I wouldn't buy this toy again, but what may matter more is what my daughter thinks. She says she should have asked for an Easy-Bake oven instead.
