5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Toy Ever!
(Dictated to and typed by Mom) I am a 6 year old boy. My mom and I read the other reviews. It is o.k. that you have charge it a lot because while it is charging I can play with my other toys. What is really fun about the toy is that you can actually make it go very high or very low. It can do really cool stuff! The toy is very fragile but if you are careful and you...

1.0 out of 5 stars short life span
This was a Christmas present that broke the first day it was played with. I think my sons were able to fly it 3 or 4 times before it would charge no more. It looks cool, but is NOT durable at all.

The toy is very fragile but if you are careful and you put your dogs in the other room while it is flying, it won't break. I love, love, love this toy!!! From Mom: My son was given this toy as a Christmas gift and although it has it's drawbacks (i.e., charge time and fragility) the shear joy he gets when flying it far outwieghs the cons. I think you have to be careful when reading the reviews to pick out a toy that matches your child's personality. My son is pretty mellow for a six year old and will pretty much take precautions with things that are delicate not to break them. But, if you have more rough and tumble boys, this might not be the right toy for them. Overall, we think it is an excellent toy! The adults in the household have been quite addicted to it as well! It does, however, drive the dogs mad and they would maul the thing if allowed to. So if you have pets, beware!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Neat, December 27, 2006
This review is from: Spin Master Toys R/C Vectron Ultralight Air Hog 27.145 MHz (Toy)
I was surprised by all the bad reviews on this toy, I think this is one of the coolest toys I've ever received. The toy is really fun and easy to control, I like that I can fly it in the house too. I think people need to keep in mind that as an ultralight flyer the battery can't be too heavy so it will only last a few minutes. Also it is very important to run down the battery entirely before you charge it or the battery life wil only get shorter. The unit does seem extremely fragile but I have crashed it several times and was surprised by it's durability

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, December 29, 2006

I bought one of these last year for my g. daughter, worked great outside, it was everyone's favorite Christmas present. Liked it so much I bought one for myself this year, have not stopped except to charge it, eat and sleep...(almost) Very simple to operate, you can't steer it, but it tends to move in diff. directions, so you keep on your toes w/ the hover. Just takes 10 min. to recharge, runs non-stop about 10 mins. Charge it all the way first(in other words, read the directions). Be careful about banging it into concrete, etc., it's basically styrofoam and will break if stepped on. It's lo tech (hooray), cheap, and a ton of fun, flies about 30-50 ft straight up (got it stuck in a tree) outside, need a little room to use indoors, just be careful, let mom or dad familiarize w/ it before turning loose on your kid. For cost and fun, challenge, I would rate this gizmo a def. 5 stars. Going to check into their other products.

5.0 out of 5 stars a real flying saucer, fascinating & fun!, December 26, 2005

Hovers wirelessly just perfectly, in mid-air, even in your living room! I love it and am getting one for my Dad who was always fascinated by this sort of thing (I'm 48). it's just what you'd want a real toy flying saucer to do, and you don't even need to go outside. True it only hovers, but with precision up and down, and as the slight drafts blow it sideways, like a balloon. Have flown ours 20 times still works great. It is quite fragile though, but crashes don't break it unless you step on it somehow.

I received this toy for Christmas and was very psyched!! It is a great toy and I really like it. However, it is kinda annoying that after every five minutes you have to charge it. And it is not supposed to go back, forward, left, or right, just up and down.

A very cool toy! The idea that an inexpensive toy can result in a very stable hover craft via R/C was not imaginable just a few years ago. Easy to use and quite impressive to watch it rise, hover and land.

2.0 out of 5 stars indoor toy!, June 11, 2006

An important thing to note about this toy is that IT ONLY WORKS INDOORS. I bought the "National Geographic" branded version (identical except for box) and the outside packaging said nothing about not working outside. But it doesn't -- the light of an overcast sky is enough to swamp the sensor for the infrared remote. The saucer starts by itself, or refuses to start at all. The manual says in this case "fly indoors in room with appropriate ceiling height." Apparently it relies on the light bouncing off the ceiling to read the remote.

A flying saucer indoors? Possibly Mom will not appreciate an uncontrollable, randomly flying thing zooming around favorite knick-knacks! You have only a throttle control, no directional control at all. Be aware -- this is for a rec room or play room indoors only.

1.0 out of 5 stars Complete junk., July 17, 2011
= Durability:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spin Master Toys R/C Vectron Ultralight Air Hog 27.145 MHz (Toy)
This toy is utter junk. If it was possible I would have given it zero stars.

After following the directions to the letter, including charging and discharging the battery in the vehicle battery several (ultimately many) times, I noted the following:

1) The effective battery life is only about a minute or so. After that the prop WILL turn but with insufficient thrust to keep the vehicle in the air.

2) There is no lateral control whatever. The vehicle goes up and down only. If it even barely touches anything, it capsizes and crashes. Since it always moves in some direction, a crash is inevitable.

3) Under full power, the prop tends to bend upward and contact underside spokes of the vehicle. They have what looks like small pieces of packing tape on the spokes at this point to protect them. This contact diminishes the thrust.

4) It is almost impossible to get the vehicle to stay at one altitude. Full power takes it to the ceiling, anything less tends to drop it to the floor. In a word: uncontrollable. Controlled landings are simply impossible.

5) Appears to be available under several brand names - this one was from "Science Tech".

The instruction booklet says the vehicle will "fly, hover, and dive". More like fly, go out of control, and crash".

Avoid at all costs. Get your kid one of the dual-rotor helicopters instead.

the first time i got one my mom sat on it and it broke so we got a new one, when i took it out side with no wind it went at least 30 feet then it stopped and dropped 30 feet strait down to the street and survived.
the only bad thing is it has a very very short charge life.
