John Macy (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Spin Roulette Gold (Paperback)
Frank Scoblete writes for the intelligent roulette player who is not looking for a magic bullet but understands that casino games have built in house edges that rarely can be overcome. None can be overcome with silly money-management systems, although money management is important in order to protect you from going on tilt. Scoblete explores two different approaches to the game of roulette in this masterpiece. The first concerns an analysis of the traditional systems used at the gme. He shows quite clearly why these systems don't work. He then goes on to brilliantly explore other methods of play. Not all of them require 30 or 40 hours of wheel watching to be effective as one reviewer mistakenly submitted. In fact, some take only a few minutes. All are brillint techniques to attempt to turn the tables on the casinos. Scoblete is a master when it comes to realistic strategies and solid writing. Get this book if you have the least interest in roulette!

5.0 out of 5 stars If It's Random You Can't Win, But If It Isn't You Can, March 3, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Spin Roulette Gold (Paperback)
The reviewer from Malaysia didn't understand a fundamental princple of roulette. If the wheel is random there are NO WINNING SYSTEMS. Scoblete explains that in the book and takes a look at all the most popular betting systems that have been developed to beat the game. None work in the long run on random wheels as he shows clearly. However, this book does have winning strategies in it; and it does show how to maximize comps as well. You just have to realize that no reputable author is going to sell pie-in-the-sky winning systems for a random wheel. But Scoblete does the next best thing. He shows you techniques for discovering biases, dealer signatures, big numbers, sector shooters and the like. This is a really well written book and it has thousands of actual-roulette spins recorded so you can play your system without actually risking money. This is a great book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Responsible for losses worldwide, July 10, 2005
This review is from: Spin Roulette Gold (Paperback)
What the author doesn't adress is this book is today's reality:

- Casino's have become very well organised multinational businesses, they are not longer ruled by the mob as in the beginning days.

- Now, suppose you are running a casino, and you would KNOW for certain, if you let your gambling equipment run without maintenance or statistical analysis, some experienced high roller gamblers could step in, and rob your casino for millions of dollars.

- These days, I can tell you first source as my friend is a dealer, all roulette wheels in respectable casino's are statistically monitored with software. So at any time the casino has far more statistical data to watch for bias, more data than at any time a player could collect. As any serious statistician will tell you: the larger the statistical data, the more dependable any conclusion one might make. If a player would observe let's say 100 spins to determine bias before playing this is FAR TOO SHORT to seriously determine bias. I would suggest to serious gamblers they buy a decent statistics book in stead of this.

- Now suppose the casino security (and they have a lot as any casino visitor knows) notices there is a bias. Well, what would they do, would you think: just let the wheel continue to turn or close it down for maintenance or simply (because they have more than enough money coming in) replace it?

This book is written for a time when casino's were ruled by the mob and only thought of making money in the short time. If a reader would be making conclusions to look and play a wrongfully as 'biased' identified wheel, he will loose a lot of money because he is explicitely betting against the law of large numbers (which is the mathematical law that the MIT students used in Blackjack). Or in other words: these days the probability one is playing a balanced are far greater than it would be a biased wheel, in the last case the law of large numbers and probabilitytheory can increase your chances.

Nice to have in your roulette library, but of no practical use these days.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly Intelligent Analysis of the Game, December 10, 1999
This review is from: Spin Roulette Gold (Paperback)
"Spin Roulette Gold" is wonderfully complete and accurate analysis of all aspects of roulette. It shows you why many of the most famous systems for playing the game such as the Martingales are such losers in the long run. However, the book goesinto methods whioch have proven effective in beating roulette such as biased whell play and signature sighting. This is really worthwhile stuff and you won't find it in many or any other book about the subject.

3.0 out of 5 stars Close, but No Cigar, February 25, 2000
This review is from: Spin Roulette Gold (Paperback)
Some aspects of this book can work, wheel bias for example, but by the time you chart a dealer, he's on break. I did win $80 in 12 hrs. Mr. S. is fun reading, and does make some excellent points, but none of the suggested systems will work for any period of time. I found a system that shows you are not just making bets, but rather competing with the skill of the dealer, and how to beat them. They show that roulette is not random at all which is what makes Mr. Scoblete's and any other systems I've tested nearly worthless. It is called Casino Secrets. Frank you could learn from them. Their secrets make all the difference in the world. It's nice to be a winner for a change.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice but..., August 29, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Spin Roulette Gold (Paperback)
This is a nice book, however I haven't encountered explanations about how professionals win at roulette as Frank Scoblete promises at the cover. I have found funny systems that can sound ridiculous for advanced players like me, and can jeopardize the money of novices. Besides, its systems don't have serious management money. Spin Roulette Gold's value ($11,96) is fair and has a respectable idea about the unique form to beat the wheel, which is finding a dealer signature or a biased roulette. In my opinion, people buying this book won't waste their money but won't discover how to bet the roulette.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely The Best Roulette Book Ever Written, May 17, 2000
This review is from: Spin Roulette Gold (Paperback)
I've read everything I could get my hands on concerning roulette and much of it has been good. This book is the best one I've ver read because it is thorough and informative. Frank Scoblete writes clearly and analyzes all the various systems and bets that players make and actually shows us, in an understandable way, how to turn the tables on the casinos when this is possible and practical. The book is a very good read as well because Scoblete is an excellent writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous Book Worth Reading, February 16, 2000
By
This review is from: Spin Roulette Gold (Paperback)
I like to play roulette and I always would play my "lucky" numbers and I always wound up losing. Scoblete's book put me straight and I now use a strategy that he calls big number betting and it seems to have helped me a lot. This book is very comprehensive and also allot of fun to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Complete Guide to Roulette, September 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Spin Roulette Gold (Paperback)
Spin Roulette Gold is really three books in one. Scoblete discusses the various strategies that have been traditionally used to beat the game and he explains why they don't work in the long run. Then he goes on to discuss various methods of play that can actually give the player the edge. Finally, Scoblete supplies his readers with more than 10,000 spins of real roulette wheels in order to test his and other systems. What sets Scoblete's book apart is it research and his ability to write an enjoyable book on what in the hands of others can be a very dull topic. This is a really first rate book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped Me Focus, September 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Spin Roulette Gold (Paperback)
This book helped me focus on methods that had a real chance to beat roulette, instead of methods that Scoblete calls "layout strategies" which don't have a chance. The book is very well written and well researched. I think you must have this book if you want a chance to win at roulette.
