My 5 year old daughter and 7 year old son both really like this toy. It is not as easy to use or quiet like they make it appear in the commercial. There is a plug on the base that you must hook up to the fairy to charge it. When it is done charging you disconnect the plug from the fairy and then turn it's power switch to the on position. The fairy will not charge if it's power switch is not in the off position. This is the part my kids have problems with. After the fairy is charged and it's power is turned on it is easy for kids to use. All they have to do is press the button and the fairy takes flight. It tends to fly strait up and hit the ceiling then lowers down slowly until comes close to something below it. When it senses something below it the engine speeds up and it goes higher again. My kids really like enjoy making it fly around the room. If it hits something it will fall to the ground and then shut off. If you are able you can grab it by the legs and then hit the button on the base twice and it will shut down.

It is better for younger kids than a remote controlled helicopter because it hovers and they can make it fly higher by simply putting a hand beneath it. What would make the product perfect is if you could simply turn on the base and the fairy started charging. However for a toy we got on sale for $35 I guess you can't have everything.

Oh and it states quite clearly on the box that this toy is NOT for outdoor use. I would suggest you follow these instructions. The fairy will fly quite high when it first launches and even the air blowing from our AC vents can push it easily around the room. Outside this thing could end up stuck on a roof or in a tree very easily.

As you probably know by now, this product does not work all that well. It tends to go flying off randomly and smack into things. The videos showing it hovering over a child's hand must have been faked somehow, or maybe 1 in every 100 of these actually works. The valiant sales reps from the company have flooded these reviews with advice urging users to reset the fairy, and / or replace the defective one they received with a replacement. I tried the reset a few times, and did not seek replacement as obviously there seem to be more defective ones than functional ones in the hands of users...

Is this an utter failure? Heck no, my daughter loves it, and the thrill of seeing the darn thing go whirling off to smack into the ceiling or furniture had her rolling on the floor with laughter. Clearly, our little one is not the tender sensitive soul that might be distraught at a crashing fairy. The toy is immensely durable as it has survived literally dozens of collisions with various surfaces and many falls from ceiling to floor intact.

If you child would be similarly delighted with flying fairy demolition derbies. have at it. My wife and myself were both hit in the head with this thing and it stung a bit, no serious damage. (That said, it might hit someone right in the eye, in which case your injuries might be more significant...)

If you want to try to get the Divine Wind Fairy to hover, launch the fairy from your hand while sitting close to the floor in a big room with plenty of space. We did get it to hover for a few seconds over familial hands this way, but then crash, boom, off it went.

The novelty value of the constant random veering flights and crashes wears off quickly enough. Maybe you should get a Syma remote controlled helicopter that can actually be controlled by the user, works consistently, and costs the same or less than Dive Bomber Fairy? Maybe, but helicopters aren't quite as girly as fairies I guess!

I purchased this at Target for $25, and it's certainly not worth a penny more than that. And considering all the sketchy reviews, I would recommend purchasing it somewhere local where you can easily return it if you have problems. My daughter begged and begged for this for her Fifth birthday and considering it was fairly small and reasonably priced, we obliged. We are quite pleased with this toy, but keep a few things in mind before purchasing.

First of all, you HAVE to read the instructions. It's not the most simple toy to operate, but as long as you follow the directions exactly you shouldn't have a problem getting her to work properly. If you are giving this as a gift you MUST get it out of the package first to charge the batteries and make sure you can maneuver it and show your child how to work it.

The recommended age for this toy is 5 or older. It is cheaply made and quite fragile, especially around the feet and the head. Plus, for every 15 - 20 minutes of playtime, she has to charge for at least 30 minutes. This is difficult for little ones.

I would only purchase this if you have a spacious room with fairly high ceilings. We have 12 - 14 foot ceilings in our home and she still crashes sometimes. This would be incredibly frustrating if we had small rooms and low ceilings. It is not recommended to play with this toy outside.

My daughter does not watch commercial t.v. so she has not seen the "magical" advertisements. If you, or your child, is expecting "magic" you will be disappointed. At first my daughter was a little upset that the fairy would sometimes crash and run out of batteries, but she got over it and can "control" the fairy as well as I can now. It definitely takes a little practice.
