5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!!
We love Moon Sand. My son has 5 different sets now and doesn't get tired of them. I've seen other complaints about it being messy. Two minutes with the vacuum cleans up anything my son gets on the floor, if he spills any. He's great about keeping the sand in the inflatable sandboxes.

We gave our daughter two different Moon Sand kits for Christmas. She played with the Neighborhood kit Christmas night for all of 10 minutes, then decided that she didn't like it. It was very messy. The plastic placemat that comes with it is not large enough to hold all the parts & the sand so sand ended up everywhere. Not recommended to use indoors unless a larger sheet or plastic covering used. The sand also does not hold shape as well as advertised. Overall bad purchase for us.

3.0 out of 5 stars Prepare for the Mess, July 29, 2008

Got this as a gift for our son. It is an artificial sand complete with molds and tools plus some added little toys. The sand have pretty candy colors and are very attractive. But it is frustrating for little kids trying themselves to create critters with the molds as the sand crumbles very easily. It needs some help from grown-ups to press the mold harder to make a press. Still, once they hold them with their hands they crumbles.

It is just no way you can have this toy played inside the house especially near carpets or your couch. Be prepared for a big mess.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible and Messy, December 26, 2007

We got this for Christmas for my 5 year old sister. I had to hide it before her younger nephew (3) came in because I was afraid of the mess it would make. It really is just an oddly shaped box of sand with a bunch of plastic molds. She cried and got frustrated because she could not pick up the shapes. It got on the fabric of the kitchen chair and would not come off. I had to dust her off and follow her around with a dustbuster. Took forever to clean up all the sand and put it in a ziploc bag (directions suggest you put it back in the junky plastic bag they supply) What a horrible toy! Might be ok for outside at a picnic table or on the ground. I hope this toy dissappears from the market!

I am very tolerant when it comes to tactile toys and messy toys, but I actually threw this one away after only using it once! It gets in every crevice and crack that is around. Plus it gets in the bottom of your shoes and gets tracked around the house. I had to strip my daughter and put her in the bath to clean up. Then I had to vacuum and mop the floor. This sand is so fine that gets everywhere. I much prefer playing with paint and small beads than this stuff. For something really fun and tactile, get a bag of rice (or small pasta) and funnels and measuring cups. The little ones like playing with it. You can also glue it down with colored glue. Cleaning up the spilled rice is super easy compared to Moon Sand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for seven year old, December 1, 2009

I wanted to include a review from an older child's perspective. My 7 year old daughter is crazy about moon sand. She mostly enjoys using it on our patio table, so she doesn't have to worry about cleanup. However, during winter she does use it indoors around our kitchen table. It doesn't pose any greater sweeping challenge than a typical day's mess that I sweep from around the table anyway. She has learned to use the broom and dustpan when she's finished, a skill every child her age should learn. I can see how it would be a greater challenge for toddlers, but for an older child, it is a great creativity toy. She uses all kinds of cookie molds, paper molds and play dough molds with her moon sand to extend the fun. I like the fact that it never dries out, lasts forever. She has been using moon sand several times a week for about a year and a half now and has not grown tired of it. She and her best friend are all giggles when playing moon sand together.

This product is very messy. I have to admit that it does clean up ok, but is too much of a mess. I don't recommend it to anyone with small children unless it is used outside. Onces the colors are mixed its no longer any fun. Gave it to my grandchildren for Christmas and it was from one end of my kitchen floor to the next. Terrible!

This was a complete waste of money. It doesn't do what it claims and makes a huge mess. If you do get it, I wouldn't recommend letting your child play with it inside the house.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Messy, January 21, 2009

I thought the Moon Sand sounded cool and fun because it was like play-doh but it never dried out. Well I was wrong. I think my daughter enjoyed it just the same as play-doh but it was more of problem for me as a parent. If my daughter enjoys play-doh just as much then I would rather buy that. The moon sand is very messy. It is messy to play with, messy to clean up and it doesn't come out of all the molds that you put it into. It got to the point that I was finding bits and pieces all around my house even days after we cleaned it up. I don't think it is worth getting just because it doesn't dry out. Just buy new play-doh when it dries out and it is 10x easier to clean up!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect indoor fun for younger kids with lots of creativity! Easy clean-up with no stains!, January 18, 2009

This is great. My 2-year-old loves it and so do I. The clean up is a breeze. NO play-doh stains, etc. Yes, it can get messy if you let your kids run around with it, but so does play-doh but that stains. This has gotten all over my carpet, fabric covered dining rooms chairs, clothing, hair (LOL, yes my 2-year-old is very active) and comes right up with NO scrubbing, etc. I found my best friend with this is a dust buster. This is perfect for indoor creativity as I let him play with it frequently because he needs little to no supervision as on the other hand play-doh I watch like a hawk because it does not come out of carpets, fabric, etc. I will say that play-doh does hold shape alot better so that will be our summertime fun, outdoors on the patio, but for winter fun, or anytime in the house I will always get moonsand.
