Customer Reviews

Overall I would say this is a great product for the right cyclists.

I re-positioned the dynamo several times, made sure I was using genuine Iphone charging cord, rebooted my phone several times, etc.

Also, the packaging lacked a piece that would have made installation easier.

while riding from SF to LA doing the AIDS/Lifecycle, I had hoped to use the power from the SpinPOWER to keep my Iphone charged. But by day two the unit had stopped working. It's a great idea but the design needs much more work. The part that spins on the tire actually starts to shred the tire when going at fast speeds, and it slows the tire down.

The product created a ton of resistance on the bike. It should only be used in emergency situations. Also, the packaging lacked a piece that would have made installation easier. Overall, the product worked but made biking very difficult.

When I first got this product I thought it was wonderful, no more running out of power while trying to track my rides through Runkeeper. However, after a couple of hundred miles under its belt I found several issues.

- The electric diode will wear a trench in your tire if not properly placed on wheel (I have a tire that has kevlar belt underneath but would be disaster for otheres)and it's next to impossible to get it to stay in proper place.

-The connector for the red charge wire is flimsy, it snapped off immediately requiring me to solder the wire into the electric diode.

-Doesn't charge unless I go at least 9-10 miles an hour.

-Even at fifteen miles an hour I still lose power (though more slowly than if I had nothing plugged) though I do understand runkeeper tends to be an energy hog.

-Clip in holder for phone comes off way to easily, can't count the amount of times my phone went flying off onto the pavement (luckily it never got damaged.

The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is it DOES provide a charge just not much of a one.

Ever find yourself without an outlet? You really wont need one anymore. You just need to pedal a bit more and you can have all the power you need.

Yet another cool product i found while searching the good ol' internet. This one caught my eye because it was such a nice looking kit. I have been looking for something like this for a few months and I think the kits SpinPower makes are about the best option there is . Its a full kit that has everything you need to power up your Iphone with just a few pedal strokes. I can see this being really handy for people who like to tour unsupported. Unsupported means you support yourself and you do what you need to get through the day. Part of doing what you need to dois getting from point A to point B. Thank god for the excellent gps on Iphones. Problem is it drains the battery pretty dang quick. Well SpinPower will fix this little issue.

About the kit.

Everything you need is right there. Instructions are great and installation was really simple. The time consuming part is just taking 5 minutes to figure out where you want everything to go. After you figure out the exact positioning, everything else just falls into place.I was a bit worried at first that it was going to be heavy but its really not. It does carry a bit of weight, but I think the designers did a really good job of shaving as much weight as they could. One thing I would recommend is using a small piece of rubber on both sides of the fork mount. I just cut up an old tube and it worked great.

What color is it?

Its very green! Not actually a green color, but very green never the less. In fact you really can't get more green. I mean you are doing the work to charge it. Its free electricity at its finest.

I installed the Wahoo fitness bike case and sensors on by bike, but the battery was being run down too fast. This did the trick! I didn't need the iPhone 4 mount that it comes with because of the Wahoo case and mount. I ended up just strapping the little 6v to 5v power box to my frame, then running a micro USB cable from it to the Wahoo case input. Now I can ride for hours and the battery will come out with the same % of charge as when I started. This won't really charge the iPhone due to the load of the ANT+ transceiver and the GPS receiver. But it provides enough to break even.
