Spinal cord stimulators (SCS) are implantable medical devices used to treat chronic pain of neurologic origin, such as sciatica, intractable back pain, and diabetic. The device generates an electric pulse near the spinal cord's dorsal surface, providing a parasthesia sensation that alters the perception of pain by the patient, and is typically used in conjunction with conventional medical management.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"The field of spinal cord stimulation has expanded tremendously in the last few decades and there is a vast sea of knowledge out there. Surprisingly, up until now, there has been no book that presents this information in a concise and practical way. There may be a thousand articles, but no single source. This book is the answer. It is a must read..."--Doody's, a 5-star review!

5.0 out of 5 stars A good overview of spinal cord stimulation for the provider, May 5, 2010

This review is from: Spinal Cord Stimulation Implantation: Percutaneous Implantation Techniques (Hardcover)
This book is well-written and concise. It amounts to a short review of SCS, technique and application. It deliberate skirts any complex or esoteric applications (retrograde peripheral nerve stimulation, occipital applications), and prepares the provider for training. A good refresher or introduction for the pain fellow or rotating resident. As usual, Scott Fishman's prose is crisp, concise and a great read. I would read an owner's manual for a microwave if he wrote it: he IS that good.
