5.0 out of 5 stars Aqua Doodle Thomas the Tank Engine Toot N' Doodle
My 4-1/2-year-old son absolutley loves this item! I must admit he is a diehard Thomas Fan; however, and would like anything to do with Thomas no matter what it was. I was impressed that the train actually follows the track just like it said it would. The only downside to this item is that you have to wait so long for it to dry before you can draw another track. Oh...

2.0 out of 5 stars Save your money for a better toy.
My son loves anything Thomas, so this was a must with him. Unfortunately, it's not nearly as enjoyable as depicted on TV.

My son loves to draw and "doodle" and had the entire mat covered within a few minutes. He wanted to know why he couldn't "wipe it off". (He loves his write-on/wipe-off board on his art easel, which provides hours of entertainment)...

My son loves anything Thomas, so this was a must with him. Unfortunately, it's not nearly as enjoyable as depicted on TV.

My son loves to draw and "doodle" and had the entire mat covered within a few minutes. He wanted to know why he couldn't "wipe it off". (He loves his write-on/wipe-off board on his art easel, which provides hours of entertainment). He was extremely frustrated with the fact that the mat didn't dry very quickly. You know how long fabric takes to dry!!

Thomas does indeed follow the "wet" track. But beware, if your child draws sharp turns or draws anything else close to the track, or if the track is not completely solid, the engines steering mechanism moves off course very easily. Another frustration to my son, he likes things to work they way they are supposed to.

The train is actually quite cute. However, it is rather large for the small mat size.

All in all, using his Thomas the tank train table ia a more enjoyable train experience, and his write-on/wipe-off art board is a more enjoyable art experience.

It's true it doesn't make much of a mess, but then again neither does any other toy that my son ignores. Once he was done "wetting it down" he didn't have the patience to wait for it to dry for an hour, so he moved onto other toys. Hasn't gone back to it since.

I can think of many other toys I'd rather have for $40! Leap Frog comes to mind!

2.0 out of 5 stars A Little Disappointing, November 19, 2005
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Spinmaster Aquadoodle Thomas Toot N Doodle (Toy)
My son received this for his 4th Birthday, and I have to say that I, as he was, was disappointed with this product. The track has to be perfect in order for Thomas to follow it (which it only does about 50% of the time) and don't dare make the turns too sharp, or it gets completely lost. Overall, the train is cute because it does play music, but my 4 year old would rather draw on it then try and make this train follow the track. Too much work, for it to properly work only a fraction of the time.

All in all, he would have been just as satisfied with the $16 'on sale at Walmart' regular aqua-doodle mat.

This item is too expensive for it to not work as promised.

this was purchased for my 2 yr old son who loved to draw and scribble. He was so excited to see thomas riding the track - well it worked the day we opened it and never again! I would recommend not spending the money on this one and get the regular aquadoodle for 1/2 the price! You are not able to wash the mat so if you get anything on it (eg. crayon or dirt) you can't get it out.

My children love the Thomas the Tank Engine Aqua Doodle! They have so much fun creating numerous tracks for Thomas to follow. I was VERY impressed that the train actually followed the track. Even when the train was a little "confused" as to where it was supposed to be going, it actually seemed to search until it found the track again. Contrary to other opinions, I thought the tracks dried fairly quickly. The only problem I had was that my toddler daughter used her teeth to peel off the felt from the track pen, but it is otherwise very durable. I think the extra trains, however, seem to be overpriced...Overall, a great product!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Follws track well, December 9, 2007

I don't understand why people are saying that the track has to be perfect for Thomas to follow, because it doesn't. The sensors do a great job of following any water trail no matter how faded. The engine will have a difficult time if there are tight corners, the tracks overlap, or get close to the edges, but those seem like reasonable limitations to me. There isn't a real engineer in there, after all, but a small sensor the swirls around searching for dampness. It does take awhile for for the mat to clear once it's been used, but that is because it's covered in water and needs to evaporate. Complaining about that would be like complaining that a coloring book is useless once it has been colored in.

It's cute, fun and a great combination of the Thomas brand and aquadoodle.

I do have two small complaints:
1) The repetitive, annoying music that Thomas plays while chugging along. Toys don't need to play music to make them fun.
2) The caps on the 'markers' are reverse laced, I suppose, so toddlers can't open them and soak the mat. But an older child who wants to fill them all by himself will dump water all over the mat because he can't close them.

I do think that $40 is a bit much, but on sale it is a great value.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, December 25, 2006
This review is from: Spinmaster Aquadoodle Thomas Toot N Doodle (Toy)
We purchased this for our 2 yr old son for Christmas. If you create a perfect track (amost never happens) and don't have too many turns, Thomas will follow it most of the time.

This was a complete waste of money. It really dosn't work as expected.

If I had a chance to try this product out I would never have bought it.

I brought this toy for my son, for Christmas. I was skeptical on the toy, but I thought why not. My son loved it, and it really works. I don't know how the train actually follows the tracks, but it really does. My son loves to play with it all the time, and guess what there's no mess to clean up. I defiantly would tell people to buy this product. AAA++++

Hours of entertainment! Our 3yr old loves it! Not only does Thomas follow the tracks or the lines you draw which is magic, its a wonderful learning tool for writing your alphabet, numbers and learning to draw.
