4.0 out of 5 stars Distillers Fans Will Not Necessarily Be Disappointed
Brody Dalle has matured and has taken her music with her. Gone are the spikey hair punk anthems of her previous work, which have been replaced with aggressive, catchy and even danceable at times songs. This has a little bit of everything in the 13 songs (Valium Knights is notably absent) featured on this debut album by Spinnerette. There isn't any real filler on this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great music... mostly
I can't give this 5 stars though some of the songs warrant it.
The biggest issue I have with this release is the 'brick wall' style of mastering. It's loud. It's distorted and it's compressed maximally.
I love Brody's voice, and some of the songs are amazing, but it's ruined by the recording techniques and the disastrous pumped-up, clipped sound...

There isn't any real filler on this album and it was well worth the wait. I'm looking forward to more music by Spinnerette.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! Blown away, December 23, 2009

I bought this on a whim and was blown away after the first listen. For those buying the vinyl version...it's pink and maybe 150 or 180 grams. It also comes with a coupon to download the mp3 version of the album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brody Dalle is Jackie Chan!, June 21, 2009

Danceable-rock with electronic over and undertones is the new "IT".

Just when I thought my love for music was over due to the horrible sound of Pop music on the radio, Spinnerette swings in and saves the day with this HOT and rocked Out "Dance" Album.

Something about this band reminds me of Shirley Manson in Garbage at times, Which is great thing.

Also if you haven't noticed, The lead singer of the band is former front woman (Brody Dalle) from the band (Distillers).

I prefer her work with this NEW band she's in, This NEW sound is more DANCE than what she was doing with The Distillers.

I've heard alot of people refer to Spinnerette as the Modern-Day (Siouxsie & The Banshees) and I most definitely can hear that.

To make this review as short as possible I'll only mention songs I "Don't" care for which would be "Ghetto Love" and "Cupid". See, That was quick, Verses talking about each song I love and why.

They just don't seem to do anything for me, Perhaps they should grow on me. The rest of the Album is amazing.

It's always a breathe of fresh air to do a five star review. I LIVE for moments like this.

This is a fantastic CD. I couldn't find any hidden gems because at no point were my expectations lowered - this is great music. My favorites were Baptized by Fire, Ghetto Love, and All Babes are Wolves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the whole album, February 6, 2010

I know most people download only the songs they love, but I guest I am old fashioned. I still like to get the whole CD and discover the album as a whole. The sound is very edgy rock, yet with some soul and angst. I have really enjoyed this and I think there is only one song that I don't particularly like- only because it seems very repetitive. Even my daughter likes to jump around and dance to Spinnerette.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for playing loud, January 6, 2010

After hearing Baptized by Fire on Sirius, I took the plunge and am psyched that I did. Great music; nuanced lyrics; throaty and unique voice...Do yourself and your fragile eardrums a favor and play this album over some good speakers. It's meant to play loud; your preferred beverage of choice in hand.

5.0 out of 5 stars very cool, September 14, 2009
This review is from: Spinnerette (Audio CD)
Brody Dalle takes her voice into a new level here. Electronic vibe combined to Dalle's unique vocals work perfectly... tho, I would have not expected something like this. The Distillers fans might have a problem with the sound but just keep and open mind and you'll get the hang of it... and the band is still a threepeace, only Brody on bass this time.
This is really cool music for party people!

Actually this is again a pleasant surprise. many people had complained over the more commercial approach that Body Dalle seemed to have taken after the Distillers. While it is true that this is not at all the same old hyper-aggressive punk that we had gotten used to, that does not mean that she can no longer deliver strong energetic rock. It is clearly still in the post-punk vein so her fans need not be too disappointed by the result, which has the addition of being actually very listenable. Maybe a few songs such a the more known Sex Bomb and Ghetto Love do not do her justice since they lack the bite of the rest of the album which overall rocks nicely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Distilled, June 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Spinnerette (Audio CD)
It's been 5-6 years since the ultimate Distillers album. There are more than a few songs which sound like what the Distillers would have evolve to in that period of time. The songs are heavy, but many are also very contemporary sounding. Pretty much the epitome of what hard rock (a genre that seems to barely exist anymore) should sound like today. Good songwriting, musicianship, and production. A really nice album.
