4.0 out of 5 stars The Mighty Spinners...
3 1/2 stars? O.K. - 4 stars. I am a huge Spinners fan and although I enjoyed this DVD, I felt I might have enjoyed it more. All the great songs are there, and the Bonus section has an extensive interview with the group. However, there was something slightly lackluster about the show - perhaps the subdued audience, or the aging performers themselves. Or the disparity that...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good DVD but ....
I like this DVD because it really showcases some classic r&b tunes done Philly style! The problem is that there is a new lead singer in the group. As we all know the original lead singer was Phillipe Wynn. Now the new guy is pretty good but he doesn't replace the original. Matter of fact the new guy does his best to emulate Phillipe but end the end he is not the man...

Or the disparity that exists between our memories of the polished studio recordings of the songs and the (unavoidably) inferior live stage versions. Or maybe I'm just being too picky - I don't know. At any rate, Spinners fans (or fans of the genre) will still like this DVD, so by all means check it out. And for what it's worth, I saw the Spinners in a live show recently and was glad I did. It was pretty much the same act as on this DVD. They put 100% of themselves into their performance, and are truly a "class" act. But for the reasons stated, I'll refrain from giving it the ultimate 5 star rating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hail to the Spinners, September 11, 2006

Don't think that you'll be able to just catch a tune here or there... at least not on your first viewing. You will be mesmerized and caught up in the progression of this show. The Spinners give it their all, and thanks for the release of this fine performance. They are a class act.

1.0 out of 5 stars "Spinners Stopped Spinning!", February 28, 2010

This review is from: The Spinners - Live In Concert (DVD)
One of my most favorite singing groups past or present 'was' the Spinners. I humbly give thanks to the powers that be for having given me the opportunity to grow up with music this fine. They were the best! And that is the operative word here..."were." Some folks who perform professionally for others really need to STOP to consider where they're at 'performance' wise, and then decide if they should keep performing or stop and let the memory of better days, and better quality energy be the scale by which their fans use to grade them in the annals of time. I take your word for it that this DVD was made by the Spinners, but I say, "You could have fooled me!" They were really bad!!! In fact, even without actually knowing for a fact, I would say the quality and quantity of this DVD's performance brought up the thought - "Are they so bad off (financially) that they are just pushing-through stuff just to make a buck?" That's the saddest part of it for me. The remainder of the sadness is that I loved them so much that this was terribly disappointing to me as a fan, a music lover and a performer myself. So, for those readers of this critique, if you're a fan, then don't buy this. It could cause you to degrade the memoriy and awesomeness of your past experience with this once incredible group.

3.0 out of 5 stars The sSpinners Live, March 31, 2009

I am a huge fan of The Spinners and their music, saw them live at the Mill Run Theater in 1974 and they were phenomenal! Where did they find the guy that replaced the one and ONLY Philippe their original lead singer? Not even close I'm afraid. Ruined the experience for me. Too bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Spinners I'll always love you, November 26, 2008

After recently watching the Spinners brilliantly perform live in Prestatyn 2008, just after the passing of the great Pervis Jackson. This concert is a must for any Spinner fan.
Pervis performs at his immaculate best.

2.0 out of 5 stars looking for the early spinners this wasn't it, July 7, 2008
This review is from: The Spinners - Live In Concert (DVD)
well i thought this was going to be a classic dvd, instead i get the spinners in their latter years, the interveiws was ok but their voices has aged with time expected more got less, needed the younger spinners who by the way was and awesome group of the 70's. This was like harold melvin & the blue notes, without teddy pendergrass.

4.0 out of 5 stars NICE, BUT, June 27, 2008

Without Phillipe Wynne and without John Edwards, The Spinners ain't really The Spinners. I know the original lead singer of It's A Shame has returned. But, he just does not have the magic of the other guys. Still, a tolerable show.
