5.0 out of 5 stars this is one CD I play over and over., April 8, 2008

This review is from: Spinning the Circle (Audio CD)
This is one CD I play over and over, and it gets better (if that is even possible) with repeated listening.

This band has some serious chemistry happening and they are all PHENOMENAL players.

I have been on a Nels Cline kick lately, ever since discovering him recently, I am committed to absorbing every thing I can find with him on it - that is how I came across this gem.

Through my Nels Cline kick I am also mad about Scott Amendola, who drums on this disc.

I feel like I shouldn't have to, but I will tell you: Nels Cline is a jazz fan's who's who on the guitar (?)

He is like Bill Frisell, but different.

Same league in terms of expertise and soul though - OMG.

Scott Amendola can play virtually any style of percussion and drumming and does on this CD. The man is the embodiment of precission and passion. A young and expressive master drummer without a doubt.

I will not compare him to anyone, as he has such a great sound and style it would only diminish the man.

And of course David Witham just seems to come up with the most luscious melodies on piano.

Now please don't for one second think he sounds like Esbjörn Svensson, but the appeal comes from a similar place for me (I have been going wild on them [EST] too - I highly recommend 'Viaticum') - that magical place when you just sit back and let the music take you out somewhere.

This stuff is effortlessly beautiful. Less is more with this stuff, just sit back and let it take you away...into...la la land...mmm.

The musicians are so connected and grooving that it reaches beyond your stereo system and pulls you into it too!

I know that sounds weird, but it is the best I can do to describe it.

Listen to at your own risk!!!

(PS- hey try the sample snippets, they won't do the CDs complexity justice, as the songs need to have room to 'open up', but they might give you a clue. Peace and ENJOY!
