Book Description

July 1, 2001
Spinning Gold out of Straw: How Stories Heal is a candid, honest look at the journey back to wholeness following the loss of a child. A master storyteller, Diane Rooks found healing in the stories she heard and told. Pulling from extensive interviews and research, combined with her own rich insights, she reveals how stories can repair even the most shattered lives. Filled with stories from folklore and personal experiences, this book clearly illustrates how to find a life of growth and meaning on the other side of significant loss.

From the Author

Telling and listening to stories provide solutions we need to heal. Learn how the stories in our lives--those we already know and those we create and change--are the best source of healing. Stories make sense of things that make no sense. If you have the courage to tell the stories that others need in order to find hope, I know the stories you need to hear will come to you.

This review is from: Spinning Gold out of Straw : How Stories Heal (Paperback)
Spinning Gold Out Of Straw: How Stories Heal by storyteller, educator, and hospice supporter Diane Rooks is a meaningful, penetrating examination of narrative storytelling as an emotional bonding and healing process. Chapters cover the positive psychological and health-enhancing effects of storytelling, from validating listeners as individuals to transforming pain and offering hope. Recommended reading for psychology students, therapists and counselors, Spinning Gold Out Of Straw is a most fascinating read, but perhaps its highest recommendation comes from the gentle healing stories within its pages.
