Editorial Reviews

New studio album by Pittsburgh Garage Rock legends! Recorded in October 2010 at Ghetto recorders in Detroit and produced by Jim Diamond. Featuring rhythm section extraordinaire of Asturian-born Pibli Gonzalez (drums) and Angel Kaplan (bass). Two guys have kept the name of The Cynics true for two decades. What does that take? Adherence to a principle: write songs of meaning, stick to the fewest chords possible. The quality of Jim Diamond's recording here is as taut as the rhythm section's playing. You would think that such discipline would result in monotony. Instead, long-term fans have been treated to continually surprising revelations... The New lp by The CYNICS is a spinning, whirling, joyous dance into rock n' roll's traditions and contradictions and has the immediacy of a singular, impromptu performance.

I love the Cynics and have been a fan since the beginning. The output is spotty, however, and this album, while one of their better efforts, doesn't quite reach the heights of greatness that "Rock and Roll" reached. Possibly one of the greatest garage-punk-rock albums of all time. That's a tough act to follow, and don't know if they ever will top that one. The new one starts off great then adds a few slower, mellower tunes which dilutes the overall punch, but they rev it up again on side two especially with the closer "Junk". I can't complain, tho, because as long as the Cynics are around, the world is a better place, and i'll be there in the front at the shows!! Hey guys....play the Note in WC!!

If you're a fan of the Insomniacs or basically every band on the Get Hip label, you will love this. Everything a garage rock fiend could want: it starts out pounding and never stops. Turn up the volume and play it in your garage! Don't have a garage, find one!
