Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen) - Allison Crowe

Biography

Vincent Van Gogh "loved life so bad, his paintings had twice the color other paintings had". So sings Jonathan Richman (on Rockin' and Romance).

And that tells you something about musician Allison Crowe.

A modern lover of music, blogger Muruch frames it like this: "There's really no way to convey through mere words how much the music... moves me, or how I want other people to listen to and adore it… Read more in Amazon's Allison Crowe Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!, July 3, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Spiral (Audio CD)
Just one word "amazing" is not enough to do this album (and Allison) justice. After hearing her fresh, unique, and frankly natural style (unlike many pop singers who look, sound, and act alike) in "Live at Wood Hall", I feel that this is a great follow-up!
I'm not fond of the title song, so I skip that as well as "Silence", but aside from those this is a brilliant collection! Allison's powerful, husky, viscerally emotive soprano blasts over the musicians like a jet engine and is weighted with the emotion of a woman battle-scarred and heartbroken many times. She sings with such beauty as well as with such pure power and emotion.
Allison makes me think of legendary singers like Judy Garland, Ethel Merman, Edith Piaf, Janis Joplin, Eva Cassidy, and others in that nobody could sound like her.
Frankly, Allison Crowe is a breath of fresh air after so many generic singers with nice but uniform voices and a uniform look; her voluptuous beauty, distinct and powerful voice, ability as a songwriter, and genuine personality set her apart. She is an artist in the true sense of the word.
