Book Description

March 29, 2004
For all those who have felt the tug of memory or a connection to some time and place that came before, this book explores the depths of one's connections to ancestors, to the land, to the mysteries of life. Continuing with themes from his first book, The Mist-Filled Path, the author brings readers along as he journeys to Ireland for a shamanic conference and shares his experiences and how they tie in to the meanings of Celtic traditions. Readers recognize connections to other spiritual traditions and shamanic teachings of other indigenous peoples. They also discover ways to reconnect with their own heritage and to cull the good teachings and incorporate them into their personal spiritual practices. Offering evocative writing, a fresh look at ancient ideas, practical exercises, and guided meditations, the book makes a perfect entry point for readers seeking shamanic wisdom and guidance.

He is one of the few permitted to get a glimpse into the realm of the shining ones...Martin Duffy -- excerpt from the back cover of The Spiral of Memory & Belonging

If you're looking for the 'original instructions' from the Celtic and pre-Celtic world, here they are.--Tom Cowan -- excerpt from the back cover of The Spiral of Memory & Belonging

From the Publisher

Have you ever felt the tug of memory or a connection to some time and place that came before you lived? In Frank MacEowen's second book, THE SPIRAL OF MEMORY & BELONGING: A Celtic Path of Soul and Kinship, he is able to share his experiences from his informed place as teacher, lecturer, and shaman with all of us who have experienced this feeling and would enjoy understanding its origin. This book continues on "the mist-filled path" of Frank's first book, exploring the teachings and beliefs of ancient Ireland and recasting them into language and stories that will appeal to today's readers. Each chapter contains practical exercises, guided meditations, and shamanic practices such as shamanic dreaming, working with spirit guides, and using trance meditations that help readers explore the shadow side and innermost reaches of their souls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exploring the realms of spirit..., August 23, 2004
By
Pete (Perth, Western Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Spiral of Memory and Belonging: A Celtic Path of Soul and Kinship (Paperback)
Having read Frank MacEowen's previous book 'The Mist Filled Path' I looked forward to this book with much enthusiam and wasn't dissapointed. His writing style is refreshing and has an openness, a flow and honesty to it that has you feel as if you are sharing his personal journey with him. Another aspect I like about his approach is that he is a practioner of shamanism exploring his Celtic heritage, rather than another person trying to produce yet another book on "Celtic Shamanism". Therefore this book would be appealing to anyone with an interest in shamanism, or Celtic spirituality, and the way he has approached this book you could easily apply it as a metaphor or "frame" with which to explore your own natural landscape and spirituality even without sharing an exact experience or realisation as the author comes to. I really connect with what he has written, and this is the first book I have read that gives an outline anywhere near to my own journey and experience. I thank him for that and for sharing this book. This book might not appeal to those who re-invent a spirituality based on the study of academic history texts, but if you have an open mind and heart and are willing to ask questains and explore within the realms of spirit then you may also may find a connection within the journey of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful spiritual journey!, July 20, 2005
This review is from: The Spiral of Memory and Belonging: A Celtic Path of Soul and Kinship (Paperback)
I would like to recommend this wonderful book on Celtic Shamanism. The Spiral of Memory and Belonging is a journey of the soul, and our connection with the earth and spirit realms that our ancestors were attuned to.

There are exercises in here to help you get in touch with your ancestors, and explanations as to what a shaman really is. This book really opened my eyes to the Otherworld.

I bought this book to help me to understand the ancient tribes of Scotland. I found that and much more. I discovered my own hidden spirituality. It was a very inspirational book for me and written in a poetic style that made it a joy to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Riveting...Absolutely Riveting!!!, April 18, 2004
This review is from: The Spiral of Memory and Belonging: A Celtic Path of Soul and Kinship (Paperback)
I first became aware of Frank MacEowen from his reviews of Patricia Monaghan's wonderful book The Red-Haired Girl From The Bog. I followed up by reading MacEowen's The Mist-Filled Path, which was an interesting, informative, and emotionally satisfying book to read. But, The Spiral of Memory and Belonging is an ABSOLUTELY RIVETING work! It is sure to appeal to anyone involved with Celtic spirituality, faery lore, Irish mysticism, or shamanic studies. From the very start I feel like I was suddenly whisked off on an adventure, one that will touch my life for years to come. Patricia Monaghan's foreword cast a spell on me. Then the real treat begins. Frank MacEowen writes with such a rich and penetrating visionary style, both mystical yet also practical. This book is a true blend that spoke to my more spiritual side as well as the skeptical and scientific part of me that needs to have things explained sometimes. At times I felt like he was addressing certain passages directly to me and to things going on in my life.
