Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

PreS Up-- A wordless collection of engaging color photography that is--for the most part--of the high caliber we've come to expect from this creator. However, while the bright colors and appealing subject matter--musical instruments; zoo animals; vendors' displays of flowers, vegetables, breads, and baskets; a chambered Nautilus and a fossil; and a birthday cake with candles--may be attractive, the book's value as a concept book is questionable. Children will find the pictures pleasing and, with a bit of adult guidance, may explore some of the shapes that the title suggests, but the possibilities for confusion and frustration abound. Aren't all these objects composed of lines? Upon perusing Spirals, Curves, Fanshapes & Lines , most youngsters and adults, for that matter, will come away with the same reaction--``So what.''-- Eve Larkin, Middleton Public Library, WI
