2008 digitally remastered three CD anthology, the first in a series of compilations from the long-serving British band released by the label Atomhenge. Spirit Of The Age is a fitting tribute to one of Britain's finest bands. This anthology sees the band dominated by the vocal presence of lyricist Robert Calvert alongside founder Dave Brock, also taking on board fellow travelers such as Ginger Baker and Tim Blake along the way. This lavish CD set draws on selections from such classic albums as Astounding Sounds-Amazing Music, Quark Strangeness & Charm, Hawklords, PXR 5, Live '79, Levitation, Sonic Attack, Church Of Hawkwind and Choose Your Masques, taking in a memorable appearance at Stonehenge and the Earth Ritual tour of 1984. Nicely assembled 3-CD box set with a total of 43 tracks - including a few (I'm assuming, several all-new mixes) of old songs. Here, you get tunes from their albums 'Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music' ('76), 'Quark Strangeness & Charm' ('77), 'Hawklords - 25 Years On' ('78), 'Levitation' ('80), 'Choose Your Masques' ('82) and 'Church Of Hawkwind' ('82). Comes with extended and informative liner notes from (who eles?) but Hawkwind biographer Ian Abrahams. A must-have for all die-hards and maybe new fans that may have not have yet heard every one of the lp's I've listed.
